Looks like the closest Wolf Parade is going to be getting on this tour leg (so far) is Ottobar in Baltimore. Tix on Sale Feb 3rd. Can anyone comment on Ottobar for a show?

Wolf Parade
Wolf Eyes
Wolf Mother
Wolfmother sounds eerily reminscent of a Deep Purple tribute. That's not a bad thing, mind you.

And I'm a huge Wolfmother fan. I'm heading up to NYC to see them Feb. 19th.
Are you familiar with Wolf Parade?
The show date is April 15th.

I really like the Ottobar. It's a small space. There's an upstairs bar where you can hang out if you don't like the opening bands. The beer is cheap, and there's pool tables.
The stage area is non-smoking, but it still kinda smells like smoke since the bar is very close to this area.

subpop.com has wolf parade playing at the black cat on 4-12-2006
Actually, they've finally added a DC date to their schedule . . . they'll be at the Black Cat on April 12th. This isn't just a rumor, its on their SubPop site.
I just wish I'd known this yesterday, I could have added this show to the ticket-buying binge I went on at the Cat last night.

When do they go on sale?
Tickets go on sale today. Does anyone know if it's 10am or 5pm? You never know with Black Cat.

Wolves are a liminal animal or something. Anthropologist Alec Brownlow writes, â??The wolf continues to occupy a contested and emotionally laden symbolic space within the American imagination.â? Brownlow wasnâ??t necessarily concerning his discussion of the role of the wolf to independent music, but when you examine whoâ??s hot shit in the independent music scene, or the internet, or whatever you want to call it, wolves are everywhere. It seems gaining indie cred was a hard thing to do in the past â?? you had to start your own record label or have sex with Courtney Love â?? but now all you have to do is throw a â??wolfâ? into your band name, and boom: â??Hello Pitchfork.com.â? Given, Iâ??m only half-serious and I donâ??t actually believe that these bands think they are going to be hot shit because they have a wolf in their band name. Itâ??s just overwhelming and Iâ??m sick of it. However, they are worth a run down.
Wolf Parade: The group perhaps needs no introduction, theyâ??re big-shots basically. The Montreal natives are receiving quite a deal of hype, similar to Arcade Fire in 2004. However, their album is pretty solid, so maybe they deserve it. Milking the success of their debut, Apologies to the Queen Mary, the group is hitting the road once again: two nights at New Yorkâ??s Webster Hall in April.
Wolf Eyes: Perhaps the most abstract and experimental of the lot, also perhaps the first to the â??wolfâ? title. They are notorious for their intense live performances, and they held a pretty solid opening slot for Sonic Youth. However, the group seems to be largely disposable. Maybe Iâ??m just not avant-garde enough for these boys from Michigan, but their Sub Pop release is pretty hard to listen to.
We Are Wolves: More Canada! Maybe the theme is if you are from Canada you are either with Arts & Crafts or youâ??re a wolf band. We Are Wolves provide a pretty danceable â??post-punk,â? abstract, but not offensive sound. I caught the group open for The Gossip last fallâ??the lead singer looks like Hal Sparks, Iâ??m not sure if that means anything to anyone but me. The group is playing Brooklynâ??s North Six in early February and closing off April at SUNY Purchase.
Wolf and Cub: Wolf and Cub hail from Australia. After hearing a couple tracks off their EP, Iâ??m not impressed. However, like every other band that gets compared to Bloc Party, I get this eerie feeling that they are going to be a big deal. The group will be tackling a record contract from 4AD and have recently been getting quite a number of remixes from a number of European heavyweight DJs, producers, whatever.
Wolfmother: Wolfmother are another act from down under. Attempting a sound that is more classic rock oriented. However classic rock, itâ??s a sincere effort and not a henious nostolgia gimmick band. The group are fresh from winning Austrailiaâ??s J Award, for â??Best Album.â? However, you wonâ??t be able to get their new album at Target or Wal-Mart; itâ??s been removed because their album artwork has a nude woman (shock!).The point is, if youâ??re interested in Led Zepplin and Cream and all that stuff, check out Wolfmother. They have a considerable number of performances at this years SXSW in Austin, Texas. Also a two night stint in New York in February for something a little more local.
AIDS Wolf: This band probably isnâ??t even coming close to being Montrealâ??s next big thing, but thatâ??s okay. To compare them another band of the wolf-namesake, they are Wolf Eyes meets Gravy Train !!!! or The Sick Lipstick. They provide a fun mix, not necessarily the kind of thing Iâ??m ready for 24/7, but if that mix sounds good to you, I recommend you check out their myspace page, unless youâ??re an individual of stronger social conviction. Also, Iâ??m not sure if AIDS really belongs in a band name, but it also may be my favorite.
I could go on, thereâ??s Patrick Wolf, Peter and the Wolf, or Seawolf. Iâ??m not really sure if there is a point or if itâ??s safe to say that wolves are some sort of indie rock spirit animal. I wish there was more conspiracy in independent music, but thereâ??s not, itâ??s just sometimes really disorienting.

I disagree with Shah about Wolf & Cub. I really like them. And I can't wait to see Wolfmother next weekend. The number of bands with Wolf in their names is getting a bit much, though.
And Wolf Parade tix don't seem to be on sale yet, so I'm guessing 5pm. I doubt it'll sell out this weekend, but probably pretty soon.

As always, take your street smarts with you but it is well lit and most people won't bother you.
Yes, there is a run down parking lot next door but I think they may charge for it. Have no idea how much.
Parking behind the Ottobar is free, it's dimly lite and only a short distance to the door.
