Funny, the weekend of the 17th is one of the weekends we're considering going up to NYC by bus. Beulah are playing in Mnhattan Friday and Brooklyn Saturday. Potentially a second and third show we could go to. But we're not groupies, unless it's Rhett Miller.
I read that Rhett recently said a fall Old 97's tour is being considered, "if our children give us permission."

That might be a double bill that we might want to check out. 10 bucks is pretty reasonable. All depends on what other shows come around at that time, since that is the busy season for concerts. Plus, it's a Sunday night, which sorta sucks for the both of us.

Markie, I've never been a Nada Surf fan but their latest album is pretty good. Not great, in my opinion but a lot of people, both in the UK and the US, are really loving them now. From what I do know of The Tyde, they should be good match, no matter what the order.
Kind of Lowgold, Longview, and a little Grandaddy sounding.

Their hit was "popular", not really representative of all their work.
Alternative rockers Nada Surf teamed singer/guitarist Matthew Caws and bassist Daniel Lorca, longtime school friends who played together in various bands throughout their formative years. After Lorca spent a year in Spain, he returned to New York in 1988, where he and Caws eventually formed Because Because Because; by 1993 the group had mutated into Nada Surf, issuing an indie label single which won them a contract with a European label. After recording an LP, the band's original drummer quit and was replaced by ex-Fuzztone Ira Elliot; the European deal then fell through, but a demo copy of the completed album was passed to Ric Ocasek, who agreed to produce the sessions if Nada Surf wished to re-record the material. The trio soon signed to Elektra, and with Ocasek at the helm they cut their 1996 debut LP, High/Low; some of the completed European tracks also made their way onto an EP, Karmic. Nada Surf returned in 1998 with their second full-length, The Proximity Effect. The band's third album, Let Go followed in 2002; it was reissued with additional tracks on Barsuk in 2003.

amazon sales rankings: nada surf ~2500 the tyde ~4900
pernice brothers=642, for the record
and the nada surf record has been out a long time, so it was probably much higher at some point
nada surf had a modern rock hit a few years ago with "popular" but i don't remember how it went
if the deathray davies are indeed playing with tyde, check them out. they're good pals with the old 97's.

right I am going to buy phish right now.
I was kidding, you know that right?
the stars are useful to pick a bands best album but are not at all helpful in going between different artistes.

I saw them open for the old 97's two years ago at the 9:30. They were pretty mediocre I thought, but according to GGW they have improved.
