The Shins

Whoever was saying The Shins put on a bad show doesn't know what they are talking about. Sure I had low expectations based on previous posts, but I thought the show was excellent. High energy and surprisingly very electric (as in guitars). I was expecting a much mellower show and was presently surprised at how they "rocked out." Great song selection as well.

Spoon was also very good as was Vetiver. I moved out of general admission pit area as I thought the sound was muddy. Moved into the pavillion seats and thought the sound was very good.

Spoon was having some major technical difficulties that bummed them out (those subs were coming through from the kick).

The Shins were amazing. All the songs I wanted to hear (Spoon missed my fav's), augmented not just like the album. Trying to remember the song order, but they did do the first songs on all 3 albums.

I'm glad to hear they put on a good show for you. I'd like to see them in a more intimate venue such as the 9:30 Club.

They must be hit or miss. I saw them open up for Modest Mouse at the Black Cat and they were awesome. Saw them a few years later at the Black Cat and they were disappointing. Glad they sounded fine last night.

THe Shins are notoriously hit or miss. I've seen them 4 times now and they're either great or really, really underwhelming. Didn't see last night's show though.

Do you think it's the fact that you're reading reviews from different sources that perhaps contributes to the cultivation of this hit or miss phenomena?

As long as Marty Crandall is the main in between song banterer, I don't think a Shins show could ever be highly enjoyable.

that was a wise move i wish i would've made. the vocals were totally muffled. however, it was cool being so close in such a short crowd.

first time i've seen both spoon and shins. i had a fabulous time!

Yeah, I had pit tickets but I didn't see any PA pointing that way (maybe a little box or two), so I sat up by the mixing board. Sounded good for the Shins, the guy for Spoon was having problems, guitars and horns were getting lost, and that low hum.

lets just make a sticky of this post so we can insert it in whenever we're talking about any other venue.

We drove down to the Norva show on Saturday…it was pretty awesome, though I actually enjoyed them more at DAR back in the Spring. Not because of the way they sounded, but because at DAR there weren't two annoying bitches next to us yapping for the first five songs.

Vetiver was pretty good too…and I don't know who decided this, but they were playing Ga Ga Ga Ga between sets over the PA, which I found to be kind of funny.
