ZEITGEIST - Let the debate begin?

This was kind of buried in old threads, but a "leak" of the new pumpkins album was downloadable over the weekend. For those not inclined to downloading pre-release albums, or not quite techie savvy enough to do so a band sanctioned stream of the entire new album is on spinner along with the new "official" video for TARANTULA. Both links below, I'm not commenting on the quality of either product this is information only. Though the doubters and haters, as well as the billy-is-god flock will surely start this debate in earnest.

Been listening to it all morning.
Very respectable album. I think it is solid from top to bottom. And again, it wasn't anything I expected from the band.

Hmm, I'd do it this way:
Adore > Zeitgeist > Machina I & II > Mary Star of the Sea > TheFutureEmbrace > Blinking With Fists

The only real difference between you and me is I'm splitting up the Machinas and you are not. I'm not really going to argue TFE vs Bw/F - it's like picking which kid on the short bus is most retarded.

Ha - I thought TheFutureEmbrace had a couple of great moments on it. Blinking With Fists was pretty awful, though. But you're right - not worth any debate.

Call me a fanboy, but I'm really digging the CD.
I just got back from Asheville (I saw shows 5 and 6), and I can't help but compare the CD versions to the live versions.
"Doomsday Clock" and "Tarantula" sound as expected. Both solid songs, in my opinion.
"7 Shades of Black" is different than what I thought it would be, but in a good way. I think it would be a decent MCIS outtake.
"Bleeding the Orchid" is good both live and studio. It would have been a standout track on Machina.
I'm not sure how I feel about "That's The Way" yet. It's OK.
"Starz" is awesome. The WE ARE STARZ / WE ARE chorus is a bit odd sounding with the 10,000 layers of vocals, but it's still my favorite song on the CD. Live, it's easily the 2nd best of the Zeitgeist era (to only "Gossamer")
"United States" rocks. The vocals are a lot different than the live version, but the song is still epic.
"Neverlost" sounds better studio. I like it.
"Bring the Light" is quite surprising. It's a hidden gem on the CD.
"(Come On) Let's Go" rocks. It should be the 2nd single.
"For God and Country" is nowhere near as good as the live version. I guess I need to hear it more.
I'm just listening to "Pomp and Circumstances" for the first time. Is this Enya?
"Death From Above" (b-side) sounds like an 80's theme song. What the hell?
WHY ISN'T "GOSSAMER" ON THE CD?!

I'm digging it! I love the epic-ness of "United States" and "Tarantula" is really growing on me. Nice video, too.
I'm not sure where I would rank it yet, but I'm so loving that the Pumpkins are back. Even if it's just half of the original Pumpkins, it's the best half and the half that's always counted the most.
I just wish they would schedule a show in DC (other than V Fest).
The Patriot Center would be an OK choice if the 9:30 Club is too small.

Not that great. But then again, in my opinion, Smashing Pumpkins was never all that great.

eh….that's basically been my reaction to every single song i've heard so far. i'm coming up on the much hyped "united states" so we'll see how this goes but so far, kinda bland. and for some reason, corgan's vocals on this seem way more nasally and hence way more annoying than ever.

I'm still wondering why "Tarantula" was the first single released considering how old this track is. This was an outtake from "Gish" and originally recorded in 1989. Kind of a tease that he's using old Pumpkins tracks to spark a new album. I hope he pulls out other ones such as "Jennifer Ever," and my two favorite tracks "On My Own" and "Nothing and Everything"

Well, I never listened to Smashing Pumpkins for the vocals, though I've always appreciated a certain raw, visceral quality to Corgan's singing. If I want nice vocals, I'll listen to Neko Case or Jenny Lewis.
I think the album rocks! It's not the best Pumpkins album, by any means, but it is a nice return to form. It's quite clear to me from listening to it that Corgan has desperately been missing Chamberlin's drums since every song focuses more on the drumming and beats than any of the latter Pumpkins albums.
