Weekend roll call

awesome
i'll be at built to spill tonight. if you see me say hi. i'll be in a blue shirtdress with some like pinkish and red flower/dot things on it, tights and navy blue flats. i'll be with a bald irish guy with glasses and a beard, probably wearing a band t-shirt over a dress shirt.

yell at me from across the room, say hi or have a drink avec moi :)
Not the best Tortoise show last night, but the encore was great, esp. "Benway" and "Glass Museum"!

Tortoise and most likely BTS. I have 2 tortoise extras if anyone wants one.
recap: saw transformers on friday night. decent action flick, although there were two atrocious moments where the horrible acting/dialogue should have been edited out. overall a decent summer blow'em-up flick.

saturday i caught tortoise - meh. didn't stay 'til the end, weren't engaging enough. based on joe's comment above, maybe i bailed too early… during the day i watched snippets of live earth.

off to BBQ and play with kiddies. should be a hoot :)
Any word on the noise? I've got to know…as geeky as it is, I won't commit to seeing it until I get the verdict.

which noise? the decepticon's "network infiltration" noise, or the general transforming noise when they go from car/helicopter/whatever to robot, or the overall noise of the movie? in regards to that last point, the movie was LOUD at time at the chinatown cinema. there were moments i wished i had my etymotics with me!
The general transforming noise. Nothing beat making that noise as a kid and trying to change the toys in time. You'd wind up sitting there "chit chewt chewt chewt"-ing for 20 minutes as you painstakingly made the 300 moves.

I have no doubt…but the thought of giant robots fighting has me a little geeked out, even though I'm sure it'll be turd city. That, coupled with the nostalgia factor, have me itching to see it.

Also went to the Air & Space Museum…pretty cool.

The McDonald's inside the food court is massive. Pretty disgusting.
i hate the air and space museum. but i think that's because i'm a girl and not interested in either air nor space.

The Treasures of American History is on the 2nd floor for now (unrelated to air and space). You should check it out, ms. hooker.

i told you on the other thread: it's there once or twice, but they seemed to work away from it as the movie went on.
Sorry…I did finish reading it. Oh well…as long as it was there at a certain point. How am I kidding? I'd see it anyway. GEEK!

Alien robots transform into box office gold

The shape-shifting robots of "Transformers" have taken on a new form: Huge piles of cash.

The sci-fi saga "Transformers," DreamWorks and Paramount's big-screen take on the Hasbro toys, debuted with $67.6 million in ticket sales in its first weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday. That gave it $152.5 million since opening with preview screenings Monday night.

If the weekend figures hold when final numbers are released Monday, that would give "Transformers" the biggest first week revenues ever for a non-sequel, surpassing the $151.6 million of 2002's "Spider-Man." But factoring in today's higher ticket prices, "Spider-Man" drew more people in its first week, about 26.1 million, compared to 22.5 million for "Transformers."

"Transformers," was directed by Michael Bay and features a cast led by Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, who are among the humans hurled into the action when two races of warring robots bring their feud to Earth. Watch actors talk about making the movie »

The movie's striking visual effects and the Transformers brand – which debuted in the 1980s with toys, a TV show and an animated movie – proved irresistible for audiences, said Rob Moore, Paramount's head of worldwide marketing and distribution.

"Michael Bay created something visually that people hadn't seen before," Moore said. "When you look at a jet plane flying under a bridge then flipping and turning into a robot, those kinds of images people found incredibly unique and compelling."

"Transformers" also took in $93.6 million in 23 other countries where it has opened since June 28.

Took my BF to see it Friday before dinner and the PMB/Carbon Leaf/SK6 show at Wolf Trap (which, btw, I love that venue. Easily one of my favorites in the nation.) and the movie was awesome.

Shiny, shiny, shiny car porn + 2 strong (HOT) female (HOT) leading characters (did i mention hot)…

and Optimus fucking Prime, omg.

DVD nyao

to quote TheDirector, "true story". where did those two come from?!? va-va-VROOOOM. the brunette (protaganist's love interest) was so hot it was distracting - which was a good thing, as is toned down the impact of the very mediocre acting. she's the kind of hot that turns your (i.e. the male) brain off. effects on the female brain slightly more variable.

ok, just the thought of her got my obsession going again: rachael taylor < megan fox (see pix #3, 10 and 13 - ouch)

P.S. in the movie, the protagonist has the handle "LadiesMan217" - contrast and compare to TheDirector217… coincidence?!?
