anyone else really digging "Funeral"
(9.7 Pitchfork review)?
it took me a couple of spins, but i'm absolutely enthralled now. the david byrne meets broken social scene comparisons i've seen thrown around seem pretty apt.
why did they skip dc? black cat booked or something?

I've listened to the album about three times through and I keep hearing something I didn't hear last time– sort of like a good movie with layers of meaning.
It's very artistic and well done. I absolutely love the Bjork-y vocals, and the amazing range and mix of sounds. It's something special.

I agree, it is an album that you need to play a few times before it starts to sink in but then you find yourself playing it on repeat for hours. Lately I have been playing track #10 ("In the Backseat") over and over.
I don't have any context to put that 9.7 into but I think this is one of the best albums I have heard in the last year and a half. Leave it to those crazy Canadian collectives.

What fad do you speak of Dr. Thirsty?
And did you see that Thurston Moore got a mention in the celebrity gossip of Parade Magazine on Sunday, of all places?

Ooh… Parade Magazine. I'll have to check that out. I used to read that trickery column of Marilyn von Savant or whatever her name was.

I've been listening to it a lot lately, and sounds too much like Bright Eyes for my taste. Not all of it, but enough of it does. There are a couple songs at the end that are alright, but that's it. I'd say I don't understand what all the hype is about, but everyone loves Bright Eyes, so I guess I do understand.

I'm with you Redsock. While they don't really sound like Bright Eyes to me, I just can't get into Arcade Fire.

Don't know Arcade Fire (except for a couple MP3s), but I do know that I'm baffled by Bright Eyes' popularity (in that indie sense – don't flame me that most people have never heard of them/him).

Jan. 27, Asheville
Jan. 31, Philadelphia
I hope they play at the 9.30 between those two shows. 9:30 moderators, any possibility they might play at the 9:30 or is that a too big venue for this band at this time?
