Matthew Sweet

Anyone heading to this show?

Sweet always puts on a great show, but I'm curious what the turnout will be like. It's an early show and he hasn't exactly been in the public eye lately.
I'm going to be there with about 6 friends who go to very few shows…. According to Eddie, no worries of a sellout.

I'd have thought Blues Explosion would sell more tickets, and the 9:30 Club weekly email is giving away free tickets to that show if you go to M. Sweet as well. Not a good sign….but we'll have a great time. And Velvet Crush should be great – that's what got my interest up.
I love Matthew Sweet but $20 seems a bit steep…
I'm looking forward to Velvet Crush too…apparently they're playing one big set, with VC as Matthew's backing band, and the VC songs played in the middle of the set, so get there early.
Not compared to $55 for Fogerty.

Cool! I was going to get there early regardless, but I won't let my friends dilly dally…

I'm in for both.
Fico stick around for JSBX.
I don't think it's a bad sign necessarily about JSBX – word just needs to get out to people who don't know of them.

hmmm, i guess the blues are no longer number one.
Spencer is a local boy, isn't he?
Early on Spencer was a local, Pussy Galore started in DC.

Is Richard Lloyd still with Sweet?
Lloyd played on Sweet's recent album, but he's not touring with him. The current lineup is:

Pete Phillips - lead guitar
Paul Chastian - ryhthm guitar/vocals
Tony Marsico - bass
Ric Menck - drums
I just don't think I want to be at standing at the club from 6:30 until 1:00 a.m. or so…. It's tough enough seeing two shows on two consecutive nights! :D

It's a Saturday and flashback to the 90's - buck up!

If I am stuck in DC no, otherwise quite likely.

Excluding those going for the double-hitter, I would suspect that the bulk of the Sweet crowd will be geezed out frat boys and their wives.

last time i saw m.sweet at the 930 a couple years back it was mostly young girls. some even brought their dads. weirdness. time to put on my teeny bopper hat.

but i've seen m.sweet several times live and he always puts on a good show.

Nothing makes sense…

Really good show last night – as mentioned by bellenseb, they played one set together for over 2 hours (I think close to 2 and a half, but I don't want to overstate). I heard people around me saying "the opening band must have bailed out," but Sweet explained about five songs in. Velvet Crush did a six or seven song set in the middle, with Sweet backing them.

VC's second song was fantastic – if anyone was there and knows the song I'm talking about, I'd love to know what album it's from.
