Ok well here's a site where you can get new CD's for $5.99 including shipping. Their model is like netflix kind of….you pay $5.99 a month and keep cd's in a queue and once a month they mail you the one on the top of your list. If you want you can purchase as many additional cd's for $5.99 as you want.
The problem is the selections is pretty limited, but it looks like it might be a decent place to pick up staples and standards. I'm sure I could find at least one cd a month I'd want and $5.99 is a pretty good deal.

much like me emusic obession, i've been on board with yourmusic for awhile and never had a problem… although my music queue is looking a bit lacking at the moment having already cherry-picked several choice titles. the price on the boxsets are great and have been tempted by the faces boxset among others.

Yeah - this is a cool service. Kosmo mentioned it a while back and I signed up. It's ideal for picking up CDs for that one elusive track you're not willing to pay full-price for, but you'd still like a real CD of (as opposed to a download). You can get 2-CD sets for $11.99 too.
Be warned that it's part of BMG, if that sort of thing bothers you.

I use it and have been happy thus far. As you pointed out, the selection is mainly staples and standards. I've been using it to replace some albums I had stolen when I lived in Richmond (Led Zepplin IV, John Coletrane, Blue Train).
I've also picked up some albums I never bought for one reason or another, Ziggy Stardust for example.
They usually add 'new releases' a month or two after they hit stores. I bought Ryan Adams Jacksonville City Nights for $14 only to have it show up a week later on yourmusic.

It's a flat rate, $5.99 includes S&H.

a word of warning regarding the Idlewild Warnings/Promises CD yourmusic sent me… it's a copy protected CD that would not play in three of the CD players I tried it in
my trick for using yourmusic is to every couple of weeks go to the new arrivals section and sort by most recent to see whats been added of late… it sorts by top selling by default which leads to scary results….

when yourmusic first came online one could search by record label which is now gone… tis a shame because there a number of Rough Trade releases hiding in amongst the dreck one has to search out by hand.

My most recent acquistion from yourmusic. Worth it alone for the two Neon Boys (Hell, Verlaine, Ficca) track including an early version of "Love Comes In Spruts". A brutal Heartbreakers version of "Chinese Rocks" with Hell, Thunders, Lure and Nolan. A couple tracks from Dim Stars (Hell, Thurston Moore, Steve Shelly and Don Fleming) and closing out with a live recording of "Blank Generation" recorded when Hell was still in Television. Rounded out nicely with several of Hell's favorite The Voidod tracks. Nice oral histroy in the booklet too…
