stereo quality computer speakers

So, a friend wants to buy her boyfriend speakers for his P.C. that will let him play tunes from his computer.
Suggestions to good quality? She's talking Bose (she's completely sucked in to that brand), but I don't even know if they make computer speakers, so I'm throwing this out to the experts.
Thanks

Well Bose speakers have an excellent reputation, and I think they do make models specifically for computers. You're also paying for the name, though. (They also make this cool speaker thing which is designed specifically for docking an Ipod.)
Or you could do what I do which is just hook your computer up to a stereo. That works pretty well… I never use CDs anymore.

He doesn't have a stereo, hence the speakers as a good birthday gift.
It was actually the bose docking station for the ipod which started this ball rolling. So cool that she thought she might get him that whole set up. But she's sticking with speakers for now.
Thanks, R.C., for the link.

If she is looking into paying a good chunk of money for good computer speakers she may not want to rule out simply getting a modest amp and monitor speakers. All you would need is a headphone-to-rca cable (cheap) and connect the audio out to the amp. Also, Bose is pretty overpriced for what you get and the only reason they have such a great reputation is off of their marketing and their "better sound through research" slogan. It sounds okay, but typically for the price you can get something much better.

;) She is Bose's perfect market target – she has lots of money, and likes good things but isn't in to technology or music or whatever, so that Wave radio/cd player is perfect of her. Simple, sleek, billed as "the best." Actually, it's the iPod of radios (but even simpler).
She got started on this whole kick when she saw that Bose iPod Dock station – it was almost enough to send her out to get an iPod (though she's a person with about 20 albums…).

If you can afford Bose, then get Bose. You'll never regret it as long as you don't regret spending a lot of money. Their speakers are top quality, they replace them at the drop of a hat and the sound quality is amazing.
I would get this
Model which also has a jack in the control panel so that you can plug an MP3 player into it as well.
You might also want to make sure he has a good sound card otherwise you're wasting quality speakers with a a shit sound card.
