I think Jack White needs to put a bag over his head.

well i wouldn't go that far… but this what i posted in the listening to thread
I was really looking forward to this one and it's a letdown… Two really great tracks with the rest sounding like unfinished demos recorded quickly to capture a moment. It lacks the fire of the White Stripes and the spark of Brendan Benson. Maybe it will better live and at a running length of 33 minutes I'm hoping for some great reworkings of older material from Jack, Brendan and possibly the Greenhornes.
with the addendum
Enjoying the CD more after a second listen, still feels like leftovers from Jack and Brendan. It's also possible they haven't gelled as work as songwriters together…
it should have been a killer first listen, it's a bit short at 33 minutes and too many slow songs…

That's the same thing this guy said:

I'm listening to the Raconteurs album, which sounds like Bad Company or something.

i got it three weeks ago, and i'm quite fond of it.
i wasn't going to compare it in any way to a White Stripes album when i first listened to it, and i think that really helped me enjoy it. but they wrote some solid, fun little rock songs. and i won't object to that.

i like it … it's fun to hear brendan benson with a real muscular guitar behind him … it gets a little 80s pop-metal at some points ("store bought bones"), but the songs are fun and they keep it real loose … that said, i'd take any of brendan benson's or jack white's other albums before this one

well nothing groundbreaking a good listen, the talents involved should have produced something better. and it's not like White has never been in a band before as he was in The Go one of best re-incarnations of the MC5 I've ever heard. i'm also getting tired reading all the White Stripes fanboys reviews of this record that act like Brendan has never existed before…
this record could have been a nice bring together of the influences of the Beatles and either Led Zep and MC5…

Pretty much..
It's just too short. There's not enough room for longer songs.
I'd like to see them live, but it doesn't look like they'll be here anytime soon.

the record is headed in that direction but to me it sounds like benson singing lead on white stripes songs and visa versa… they craft records differently as benson takes his time where as white does it in a couple weeks… it would seem some of the tracks were finished up by benson after the initial recording was done and the rest left as is. the record shows promise for better things to come :)

Everytime I see this thread title I think of the song Lexicon Devil by the Germs.
I want toy tin soldiers that can push and shove
I want gunboy rovers that will wreck this club

Agreed. But I'd go farther and say that this somewhat of a failure of a record. The singles sound so much more developed and polished in concept and production. I think Kosmo's earlier statement that it sounds incomplete - like they rushed to finish it to capitalize on their own buzz - was pretty close to being right on. Most of these songs sound like watered down White Stripes songs to me.

Seeing as this project was dimissed as a rumour the minute word got out about it, it would appear that white and benson happened to be in Detroit at the same time and decided to write some songs together and roll tape to capture that process at brendan's home studio. people heard it and thought that it should see the light of day. It didn't help that for me at least the first two songs posted on the bands website were killer and left me wanting more…
