Allmusic lists them as "Twee Pop" whatever that is.

There seems to be a fondness these days for 80's music that never got much airplay when it came out.

Are you nuts….????
RUN
I'll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You've been the only thing that's right
In all I've done
And I can barely look at you
But every single time I do
I know we'll make it anywhere
Anyway from here
Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I'll be right beside you dear
Louder louder
And we'll run for our lives
I can hardly speak I understand
Why you can't raise your voice to say
To think I might not see those eyes
Makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long goodbye
I nearly do
Light up…
Slower slower
We don't have time for that
I just want to find an easier way
To get out of our little heads
Have heart my dear
We're bound to be afraid
Even if it's just for a few days
Making up for all this mess
[Okay, I've had one scotch and water, and am on #2….I know, they're wimpy, I was being sarcastic….]
:D
HOW is this wimpy???
Grazed Knees
I'm trying not to stare, it's too late
The blankets over there, if you like
I'm broken and I'm colder than hell
I should've said I'd not come back here
Your breakfast will get cold
I really have to go
It's easier to lie and be safe
Time and time again I'm half stalled
One giant leap of faith is easy
When everyone you ask is so sure
Just give a second thought
What if we don't get caught
Just say you love me now
And forget this whole row
Just save your energy
For making up with me

Just arrived home after escaping the throngs of college kiddies. First time seeing them and it was a decent enough show but in far last place for the week (behind Scissors Sisters and last night's Siouxsie show). The vocals were stunningly bad (flat, unable to sustain notes for more than a few seconds) for over half the set and I am a big fan of Final Straw. Let's not even discuss the harmonies. All I can say is the voice gods were definitely smiling on the band in the studio when the cut the vocals. The crowd ate it all up but I don't know if I'll catch them live again.

I thought the same thing about their vocals on the album. I listened to the cd on the way home to see if somehow I missed something - nope not flat. Dunno what happened. Short show. The first time I saw them was much better.

I dug the music that was played after the show. Went to the soundboard and they had their own mix playing. One band was a long name I couldn't understand what the guy behind the board said. The other band is called "Mum". He said something about "Anne Archer"? Anyhow nice enough guy. Wish I had a copy of that traveling mix.

yup, i too arrived at the door at 10pm ish to a sold out sign. buggery.
we went instead to kingpin, where they seem to find it acceptable to charge $4 for a high life. that's the last time i'll see the inside of that place.

Not a snow patrol junkie, but my take was that from early on it was evident his voice was not "there"…. but that's life on the road. More guitar would have been welcome, but it's not an 80's band, but I did hear more in the album. Energetic, but at times it seemed out of place. Jumping around during a slow tempo song doesn't make you a great live band. All in all, I'll give it a 6 out of 10. Maybe more deserving of a 5, but after the opener scored in the negatives, anything was more welcome. I wouldn't go again soon, but I certainly wasn't turned off.
I love Final Straw and had a great time at the show. I could not believe that show sold out – it sold out at precisely 10:25 – I was there when they put this "sold out" sign on the girl in line who'd get the last ticket. Very funny practice….
I definitely prefer Patrol's more vigorous songs – "Wow," "Spitting Games," some songs they closed with that must be from the earlier album. I'm kind of surprised "Run" is their 'big hit' – but…. And I enjoy the thrashing and jumping around. I think they're a quite good live band because they clearly enjoy playing. I am not in to bands that stand there crooning, putting in their time to get the songs out. Gary Lightbody smiles while he sings and he is adorable – enjoying the show and the crowd. That's big for me….
The band came to DC9 later, and I got to tell Gary that I loved the show, had loved the show last time they came through town with a much smaller crowd and it's great to see that the band really enjoys playing… He was nice. Clearly not in to chatting with fans, though (even though there were only 25ish people upstairs at DC9 – couldn't have turned in to a swarm even if we tried….).
For me, a good night. Two too many Heinekens, but what the hell. Now it starts all over for Tommy Keene and GBV…(I'll likely say "eight too many Heinekens" tomorrow….)

as did i. i thought it was kosmo spinning up there only to find out it wasn't. that song that was played right after they left the stage was excellent, and i'veh eard it before but no one knew what it was. markie was very excited that a fiery furnances song was played.

First song when they left the stage is by Mum.
I couldn't place the song/band but it seemed so familar. I realized the song reminds me of "Mixing My Arms" by a Denver band, Bear VS Larger Bear (http://www.bearvslargerbear.com/BvLB_frame.htm).
