Green Apple Festival on the Mall 4/20

Are you sure? The last I checked, Gary Higgins was all about being green.
It looks like NYC, Chicago, and San Fran have some good artists playing that would make me want to attend, but the DC lineup sucks.
haha

how do they expect to pull off a green apple festival without green apple quickstep???
IAmHydrogen has a very valid point here… At this juncture only DC has announced who will be playing free on April 20th.
Well that's all we really care about, right?

Aren't the free shows on the mall all there is or am I missing something?

Tragedy: A Metal Tribute to the Bee Gees really sold you on the NYC show?
IF you look at the shows listing on the DC page, it looks like area concerts are part of the event. There were a few shows (Cloud Cult, etc.) that aren't on the mall but are part of the event.

I see.

I guess Cloud Cult being a part of it makes sense.

But are they actually apart of the festival or just what ever happens to already have been scheduled…

and i'm pretty sure it was Dot Dot Dot that won over Charlie…
per Gov't Mule's mailing list:

Gov't Mule
Toots & The Maytalls
The Roots
Umphrey's McGee
Theivery Corporation
& more
per green apple's website: starting at noon on 4/20, on the national mall:

Free Live Bands!
The Roots & Friends
Gov't Mule
Toots & The Maytals
Thievery Corporation (DJ Set)
Warren Haynes Solo Acoustic
Umphreys McGee
DC Boys Choir
CityDance

Speakers:
to be announced….stay tuned!

(guess about the speakers: they'll all be black, in boxes, on either side of the stage, and will allow folks far away to hear the bands. dunno why they need to "announce" that)
Other than Umphreys McSchwag, that lineup is sick for a free concert
Hip-Hop band The Roots are among the headliners of eight simultaneous, free Earth Day 2008 concerts organizers have announced.

On Sunday, April 20, The Roots along with Ricky Skaggs, The Neville Brothers, Los Lonely Boys and Mickey Hart from The Grateful Dead, are headlining free concerts in Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Dallas, New York, Chicago and Denver.

The Roots will headline the flagship event in front of the U.S. Capitol building, along with other invited speakers, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson, members of congress and even a possible presidential candidate.

The purpose of Earth Day 2008 is to raise awareness about climate change, global warming and each individuals relationship and impact on the environment.

"This Earth Day, itâ??s time to change the forecast for global warming," said Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network. "Climate change must rise to the top of the national agenda this election year. On April 20th, Americans will be hearing our global warming message and we will be mobilizing support for solutions."

Over 1,000 colleges are also involved in the day-long celebration, which also includes hundreds of community events that are expected to attract hundreds of thousands of participants.

The Earth Day Network has a network of over 17,000 partners and organizations in 174 countries.

More than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day activities, making it one of the largest secular civic events in the world.

The Rootsâ?? newest album Rising Down is due in stores April 29 on Island Def Jam.
