Decemberists Tour Canceled (Per Myspace Bulletin)

I have not been able to corroborate this, but I just received a MySpace bulletin from the Decemberists that reads as follows:

"With much regret The Decemberists have canceled the remainder of "The Long and Short of It" tour.

One of our band members has been ill for a while but we thought all would be well in time for these tour dates. After a couple shows, though, it has become clear that the illness is much worse than we had initially realized. We need to return home so our friend can mend.

It saddens us to disappoint our fans. We hope everybody understands it is only because of an extreme situation that we had to cancel a tour we've all been excited about doing since the idea was originally hatched.

Our deepest apologies but at this time no plans are being made to reschedule the dates. Ticket holders should seek refunds at point of purchase."
OK, it's up on their official site now:

Read "This Just In" on the main page.
Found out when I got home. What a great birthday present.

They've been doing a very good job of keeping this information quiet. Even on the fan boards, there is no obvious indication of whom might be ill. But it's obviously not a bad case of the sniffles. This is a rather serious second blow, having canceled the latter half of their European tour just last month.

Thanks, but that wasn't there when I posted this earlier. I now see it is also mentioned in El Jefe's Decemberists poster thread.

I just wanted to make sure word was out quickly as it will impact a lot of people's plans. I had two friends coming in from out of town. I'd have been bummed to have found out when we got to the club.

I just hope whoever is ill in the band gets well soon.

Nice try, but wrong band. Were you out smashing pumpkins last night?
Good news for those who can't make it. I hope it isn't something serious though.

First The Gossip/Long Blondes cancellation, now this. I'm waiting for the cancellation of the Hold Steady/Art Brut tour.
Guess y'all can come over to Black Cat instead…

Why? Who's playing there that night?

We (Soft Complex) play on the 12th with VHS or Beta & Moving Units.
Wow that's a bummer.

Does "refunds available at place of purchase" mean that online purchases should be credited to CC's/bank accounts?
Thank you for contacting Tickets.com.

We are still waiting for the 9:30 Club's official cancellation
notification. If you do not receive a phone call from us in the next

Thanks.
This sucks for those people who bought Bright Eyes & Decemberists tickets then sold off the BE.

I actually still have my BE ticket.
But I still think I'm going to sell it…

VHS or Beta however…I'm SO there.
Bummer. I was really excited by the tour concept of seeing two shows, one "Long" and the other "Short". Here's hoping they reschedule it at some point. Best wishes to the ill Decemberist for a speedy recovery.
I am pretty sure both Colin and John are sick. I spoke with my Uncle a few weeks ago after they had cancelled the European dates. I know they thought they'd be better by now.
