Clavius Productions presents:
Monday, May 29
Warehouse Next Door
1017 7th St NW WDC
$8, all ages
doors at 8:30, show at 9
Excepter (ex-No Neck Blues Band, Load/5RC)
Lichens (mem. of 90 Day Men, Kranky)
Pit Er Pat (Chicago post-rock trio, Thrill Jockey/Overcoat)
The Amoeba Men (Richmond psycho post-punk a la Brainiac/Devo/Six Finger Satellite)
from the Washington City Paper:
Excepter piles the hyphenates on pretty thick. Electro-, improv-, and psych- are all necessary to classify the 11 â??danceâ? tracks on its latest LP, Alternation. â??RadioShack keyboard demoâ? might paint a clearer picture for the uninitiatedâ??but that shouldnâ??t be taken as an insult. The spindly drum-machine rhythms and forlorn man-boy vocal groans that comprise tracks such as â??Ice Cream Vanâ? and â??Whirl Windâ? come together to create a decidedly nonrock sound that will demand hip new genre titles such as â??Acid Filthâ?â??which, obviously, will look extremely awesome on record-store shelf cards. Yet when the umpteenth minute of their epic album closer â??Back Me Up (Show)â? hits, and the sex moans start, the unavoidable question rears its head: â??Are these guys bullshit?â? Probably. Or at least some of the time. But is that so wrong? Find out when they perform with Lichens, Pit Er Pat, and the Amoeba Men at 8:30 p.m. at the Warehouse Next Door, 1017 7th St. NW. $8. (202) 783-3933. (Aaron Leitko)
