The angry hipster death glare

But then why did they pay 30 bucks to see them?

most of the "I refuse to smile, ever!" people are probably under 23 and still think that having rigidly enforced obscure music taste and hating "poseurs" who dare to occasionally shop at the Gap is the one thing that gives their lives meaning
My two cents…

It's a rare band that I'd pay $30 to see…

I'm over 30, not under 23, and don't care to dance and bop around at shows or smile for no reason like some half-wit…if there happens to be a reason to smile, I will do so at my own discretion…

I think the Gap is an OK place to buy basic wardrobe staples…
The only show i can remember watching from the balcony was the Secret Machines (when the opened for Interpol)

I think i was glaring too, not at anyone in particular though. I was angry though, because last time i saw SM was when they played the Ottobar and there was 150 people there, and everyone was diggin em.

Six months later, i couldnt FIND a spot to even see the stage (and i'm 6'1") and when i looked down at the floor….no one was even head-bobbing. So sure, i was pissed that all those people who cared NOT about SM, were way closer than i.

i did go downstairs and annoy people during Interpol though ;)

HAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
That Calvin pissing reference – priceless. Alas, I go in to a conference call with that image emblazoned on my brain…

Could you cotton to the fact that more people on this bboard should take ecstasy before going to the club?
i'm only half-inbred…
on my father's side
Oh my god, that's horrible. I'm going to have to change my initials now…

Hate morning radio. Although having a bumper sticker with my intials might be so uncool it's cool, right? Now if only I had a car…

You informed:

Well, at least you are off the hook on this one. Up here in Bodymore, Murderland the type of people that love the Blue Collar Comedy tour also tend to be fans of a radio morning show with those wild and crazy DJs Kirk, Mark and Lopez. They show their support by sporting KML bumper stickers. Usually right next to stickers of their favorite NASCAR driver's number, "W 04", and Calvin pissing on something.

Sad, because some of those hipster fellas are kind of cute, but so mean looking I would never dare to talk to them…I'm sure they see that as a blessing, as I might infect them with my horrifying yuppie tendencies. Oh well. Personally, I'm usually so happy to 1. not be at work, and 2. be out of the house, listening to music that I love, that even the sullen starers don't bother me all that much. But I admire the less self conscious people a lot more, I have to say.
why do you assume that everyone at a show already loves the band? i go to see many shows just to see what a band sounds like live, or because a friend of mine is going, or because i don't have shit else to do on a tuesday night.

have you thought maybe this is because you are incredibly ugly, or just perhaps overall creepy looking?
did anyone see the triumph does the grammy's piece on conan a couple nights ago?

absolutely hilarious, at one point he asked franz ferdinand: "so are you guys gay ……. or extremely gay"
I never understood spending money on bands that one is not a big fan of. Sort of like going to a Will Smith movie just because you want to see a movie.

wow. i'm glad i don't go to interpol type shows and run into mean looking, stoic fans. i'll stick to the circle pits and fist pumping at flogging molly this monday. ;)

KML is/are just my initials, which I assume is what the other guy was referring to in saying my handle was soooo lame. Unless it also stands for some obscure band I was not aware of, in which case, please let me know. Yeah, sorry I didn't spend hours frantically trying to think of a really profound and original screen name, I was more thinking of something I would be able to remember. Yet another thing that makes me less cool than most of the angry hipsters, I know. I sympathize with not wanting to dance or not being a really "movey" type of person, I'm not either, and I know dancing ability is a special embarrassment for guys. I don't have a problem with people standing still, it's more the angry glares in response to my polite/friendly smiles that are a pain in the arse. I mean, I don't expect everyone to start screaming like idiotic fratboys, but they could just relax a tiny bit without relinquishing their hipness, I would think.

Now, to really piss people off, I'm going to close with a smiley face!

:)

i agree, i caught them open for the fire theft at black cat and the place was EMPTY … big difference to that show … i like those guys, got a good vibe going, like the spotlights (thankfully they don't strobe), not great songs but i'm sure they'll get better …

totally different …

a) when you're at a movie theatre, you often have a choice between, maybe, 10 different movies. not so when you're bored on a tuesday night and go hit up a show for no particular reason.

b) going to a show is like a night out at a bar with some music playing. sometimes i'd rather spend $5-$15 and check out a band i don't know very well than just go across the street to chief ike's or something. not so with going to the movies (unless it's the drafthouse).
If anyone cares, I'll be at the Queens of the Stone Age show, up front, rocking the fuck out. Anyone near me at the Pixies shows (esp. Philly) probably was a little afraid, especially during "Caribou" when Frank shrieks "REPENT!" Some shows just make me lose my shit, but I admit that lately in DC people tend to be a bit more rigid than usual and I feel a bit more reserved as a result. But anyone that knows me also knows that I have fun, I really don't care what I look like. I hate to admit I agree with Rhett, but if you pay the dough, do what you want as long as you're not messing up someone else's evening by talking loudly, being a drunk jackass, and hurting people. I'll never forget the times that an audience made the show even better…Prodigy back in 1998 @ 9:30 (the entire main floor seemed to be jump up and down at the right moments) comes to mind. My thought though is that if you're not going to a concert to enjoy yourself and have a good time, then why bother going? I know that people aren't going to be happy and smiling at a Bauhaus show, but on the other hand, why not try to enjoy yourself just a bit? Bands appreciate it when people give some feedback instead of seeing a wall of Chinese terra cotta warriors.
hoya, dont explain yourself, rhett thinks everything everyone else does is stupid and pointless :)

i wish baltimore had more shows to go to. i would just drop by shows often, even if i didnt know who was playing!!!!!
I guess I'm just not one who sees shows for the sake of alleviating boredom. There's so many other options in life. To me, shows are something I look forward to and get excited about. But I guess I don't see standing in a crowded room of strangers, often smoking, often loud, and often rude, as something that is fun unless there is a great band involved to make the elements I don't enjoy tolerable.

Not criticizing, as Sonic would lead you to believe. Just differing priorities, I guess.

My faith in the overly-stoic DC audiences was renewed a bit last night at the Le Tigre show. People were dancing and jumping around like crazy.

Right-O. I'm also curious why one STAYS at a concert when they hate the band…unless you're waiting for the Academy Bus and all your little classmates. Why - too - would you then bitch and moan and denigrate the band the next day on this website when you already said prior to the show that you hate the band, their fans, and the horses they rode in on?

If you're expectation is you'll always find SHIT, guess what you'll always find?
i use the angry hipster death glare on people talking during openers. although i have come to realize its a hopeless cause. once i accidently used it on the lead singer of the headliner
