I'd love to go, but I host an Oscar party every year…..
Hey, Miss Marple – DID YOU SEE BARRY MANILOW ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA THIS A.M.? He's got a long-term gig in Vegas, opening tonight, so he did three songs in the last hour of the show. Ladies in the audience weeping to "Mandy," all your standard Manilow moves…. I thought of you.

HELL YEAH! i am so there on sunday. boy and i are headed to philly to see them at northstar bar on saturday.
should be interesting to see their mood on sunday. glen f'n hates playing the black cat. says there is a permanent bad vibe and too many obnoxious people that attend the dc shows. everytime i've talked to him in the last 2 years that's all he mentions about dc. i sent his tour manager alternative venues like dc9 and iota with the suggestion that they do 2 dates to accomodate the fans due the venues' size. guess they could only fit one in the scheduled and decided they would head back to the despised black cat.
that said, the shows at the black cat have been great and the mood, due to glen's opinion of the venue, that so comes out in the music have been absolutely unique. the frames are a band very energized by the crowd and their playing is very influenced by the crowd as well.
you should have seen them at joe's pub in nyc-pure magic and they were ON FIRE.

the show in philly was FANTASTIC last night! i wish you all could have been there. colm (the fiddler player) is not on the tour though. his girlfriend had a baby a few days ago and he is on paternity leave from the band for the next 6 weeks. though truely, you barely miss the fiddle. they have more than accomodated for his absence. i talked with glen about the show tonight being at the dreaded black cat. his response "well, yeah, wasn't ideal, but we have a job to do so we'll do it."
nearly a 2 hour set last night and then we talked with mark geary outside the bar after who was really touched that we travelled up to see him and the band. grand guy.
grand evening.
except one thing-i rocked out too hard last night and i'm really sore today. i better be careful tonight so i am still able to make it to work tommorow! HA!
see you all tonight.
they have tons of merch for sale, including frames undies! !

the dc curse has been lifted!!!
woo hoo!
the set list was nearly identical to the philly show, though the ordering was different. that pixies cover was a suprise though! they've continued closing with red chord-that van morrison song-and then mic christopher's hey day trio mix thing from last year when they opened for damien rice. i've heard it several times, but i absolutely the combo and never grow tired of it. i would kill for a storming version of hey day though like they did on that live australia ep.
we spoke with mark geary and he will be doing a show at iota in may.

okey dokey
best gig I've been to in a long time - the lads were on fire last night - I am very, very hoarse
I don't know how many people in the crowd were irish butit seemed like a lot - even Mark Geary who I've never heard of got a great reception but The Frames were magnificent - a bit of a slow start with at least 3 and maybe 4 songs from the new album which all have this start slow, end in a maelstrom of guitars type structure which works quite well on the CD but was a bit much for the ears at the Cat (probably the loudest gig I've been to at the Cat and thats saying something) - the sound was also not great for the first few songs and they had a lot of feedback probs
for guys who don't like the Cat they seemed to be having the time of their lives up there - Glen never stopped smiling and goofing around and chatting with the crowd, half way through Glen left and the rest of the lads did a great version of Sabbaths War Pigs
by the end of the night they could do no wrong and they knew it - at least 3 encores, including a blistering version of Revelate, and a note perfect cover of Where Is My Mind?

i'm just thrilled that the set went so well and they weren't beleagured with crowd issues. they never do a bad show but if they've got crowd problems it kills their mood on stage.
that pixies cover was a huge suprise, but one that i've been anticipating for a while because all the band members are huge huge huge pixies fans. i wasn't expecting that particular song though, i kinda thought their take on bone machine would be pretty rockin' if they ever wanted to do a cover.
did you notice that at one point they did a couple lines from damien rice's blower's daughter?

Thanks Bags for the ticket!
It was a good show.
But I dont really understand what some people are talking about.
I have seen the frames at blackcat 3 times now. The first itme with the New Pornographers, the frames had a great time. They seemed genuinely inspired by their warm reception. The second time with Calexico they got annoyed with hecklers, but it was far from an awful gig. Infact I think I preffered that show, with its quieter songs, to last night.
I am not sure I like them when they play loud. Maybe I just need to get used to the change. I still dont think it was too loud in the blackcat last night. I think poor Brennser ears are old and not used to going to concerts anymore.

apparently the 'fucker' sitting in the back reading the paper was Mark Jenkins - will be interesting to see what kind of review appears, if any
