Get Yer La-La's Out!

I got ten invites burning in my pocket for anyone that wants to get in on the "beta" before July. PM me an email address if interested
My experience so far on La La has been very positive. Currently I'm at 178 trades (88 CDs sent 90 received). Have gotten some great CDs including three out of print Rhino comps, three of the "Back To Mine" series, Two Richard and Linda Thompson CDs, a GBV CD, Jack Frost, two Beth Orton and Kylie Minoque CDs, and lots of 80s classics that were trapped on vinyl. The condition of the CDs has been very good.
The system isn't perfect as there is no guarantee you'll get the cd booklet as the system wasn't set-up for that. My rate of getting them has been above 50%. You are more likely to get booklets if you are going after music collector vs mass market releases. Getting remastered titles isn't always guaranteed.
There is a policy that prohibits the trading of any cd that has promotional blurbs on either the disc or booklet. This is has been a hotly debated issue, as La La maybe over thinking the legality of trading such CD. But it's their policy and most appear to be abiding by it.
My biggest "beef" is that while there is number of well known "indie" titles being requested, equivalent replacement titles don't appear to available. i.e. the bloc party is an instant ship, but after a couple months on my want list Rogue Wave has yet to come crashing my way. Old AC/DC records are very easy to come by :D
If ya got a bunch of CDs your not currently listening to anymore it's easy to add to your have list and begin trading and getting new titles back. If ya get something you don't care for re-list it and get another. The cost $1.49 and if you want to send the booklet along with the CD an extra .22 cent stamp which is optional…

Oooh, a redesign! Yeah, I've had nothing but good luck with Lala. I've gotten some hard-to-find GBV EPs and CDs that I hadn't previously purchased, as well as the Dee Dee King CD (cough bragging cough).
Of course, it looks like it's "vacation" time. I got the look from the wife yesterday when a lump of 6 CDs showed up, on top of the other 10 that had shown up already this week. It's amazing how quickly $1.49 adds up…
ALso, if anyone wants invites, feel free to PM me after Kosmo loses his reserves. I've got 10 waiting for some luckly boardie.

Ok make that three Kylie CDs and a Hot Chip single… Suprised more of you aren't interested in this as IMHO it makes more sense to shift CDs via La La then going to used CD store.

hey, thanks for this. I signed up on Friday and I've got one CD going out and two coming. My problem is that I have a hard time parting with old CDs I haven't listened to in years. I've got almost twice as many wants as haves.

Trust me I know you feel on parting with cds, luckily about 1/3 of my trades were duplicates. Kosmette came with a nice dowry ;)
But when you start to get interesting CDs to start being sent to you, it's not so hard to ship off that Faithless crapfest picked up in error, or Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Jamiroquai. Hearing a guy rock out on a didgeridoo not so interesting anymore and they are funky just not in the musical way.

in light of mankie deeming these CDs "not music", you may want to reconsider your decision

Great collection. Don't miss the 'hidden' bonus track…"I'm Going Home".

I'm a satisfied lala user myself, with some minor gripes but generally satisfied. What's your opinion on how it'll change when it goes public?

The future is bright for La La as more it brings in more traders in the short term. Down the road I'm looking forward to being able to trade with friends, there is talk of a buy option as well as being matched with a local store where a wanted title maybe in stock. Don't think the "Premium Service" will be anything I want to be fully committed to be a part of. So far the Postal Service has been it's relatively reliable self, but there are problems which could spoiled the service for some. Like the scare Volebeats I sent that went missing in transit…
Still very satisfied, although I'm not sure they were quite ready for a public beta as there are still bugs in the system, the database is problematic, etc.
Now that they have let more users in trading for me has gotten much easier the requests come more frequently. They have also capped at 15 the most CDs a person can have shipped out at any given time which has slowed down some of the "power" traders. In fact being maxed out at 15 for me is great as I don't have to continually watch for new requests all the time.
So far the not getting artwork, the problems with requesting and getting a specific versions of a particular CD, haven't been a issue for me. Have gotten half of a couple two sets and probably wont see the other half anytime so, but it's not a real showstopper for, as I will be getting both cds in "the Best of The Beta Band" set.
I just got what would have been my 100th CD via La La, out of those shipments
1 never arrived
1 arrived unplayable as it skipped
2 arrived wrong being blantant promos
Have gotten artwork almost 70% of the time.
So far I've already traded back five CDs and have other under consideration for reswap. At least half of these CDs shipped are definite keepers.

and whats most interesting about the Feedback forums on La La of late, is the whole "I don't like the current business model, please change it to suit my needs" requests currently flowing in…

According to

I'm interested in the independent record store angle.
