I'm still thinking Lulu got sick of Mark E's smart mouth.
Back to Christmas presents, I got a totally bitchin' chess board, an iPod, a great sweater, and some fantastic CD's.

I thought being punk was reading Fortune magazine and creating bands. Isn't that what McLaren did?

I got that too…… Its a bit odd isnt it? Is boys dont cry punk? Or Joe Jackson?
I'd don't know if I'd really call "Boys Don't Cry" punk, but I guess if you consider punk to be the whole DIY, grab a guitar and play your heart out ethic, I could see why it's included. Plus, there's no denying the Cure's image was a bit radical for the late 70's. I would have picked a different Cure song though.
Joe Jackson - yeah - I'd call him a punk back in the day. But again - bad song choice. "One More Time" or "I'm The Man" would fit a little better onto this comp. Maybe they were just trying to show how new-wave started rearing it's ugly head on the scene?
Plus have you read the booklet? The writer need to check up on his history.
Not yet. I've glanced through it, but that's it.
Still the music is pretty great.
Absolutely!

I heard some of that in Video American. Isn't it mainly most of Rhino's previous comps put together in one box set? Have they finally included The Clash?
Mark, I'm curious to find out what you think of the LA Scene.

You mean the old DIY series? Yeah - it takes a lot from those discs. If you have those, this isn't a necessary purchase. Those are long out of print though.
And yes, they include The Clash. Only "White Riot" though.

Yep, the DIY series. I've got most of those. You can still find em in stores every so often. There was always licensing issues with The Clash. I wonder if those issues, you know, ended.

The Post voted this the best boxset of the year in their
year-end wrapup:
Best Box Set: "No Thanks: The 70s Punk Rebellion"
Punk gets the Rhino treatment on this four-CD set, which skims the curdled cream of the Buzzcocks, the Dead Kennedys, X, the New York Dolls and the Ramones, as well as dozens of others. Neglected greats like Stiff Little Fingers and Johnny Thunders get salutes, and the track-by-track commentary, by Ira Robbins and Dave Schulps, sums up the story and the characters in succinct and colorful detail. Notably absent are the Sex Pistols – a deal with whoever owns their catalogue never panned out – but everyone else who matters is present and accounted for, and anyway, as it candidly says in the liner notes, you ought to buy the Pistols' "Never Mind the Bollocks" before you spend more than $60 for this set.

That's odd, because on one of the UK punk ones they've got Anarchy in the UK and God Save the Queen as demos.
Anybody check out the 3 disc postpunk series Rhino put out?

I've seen them, but haven't picked them up. It seems like all the songs I know on them, I already have. I'm curious how the rest of the music holds up. I'm sure they're good, but I haven't felt the need to drop $$$ on them.

most notably I got a new leather jacket, and most strange present, I got a box set of books about famous prostitutes…from my mother. I think she's hinting something.
