Virgin Festival set times?

Does anyone know when set times will be posted?

Every other major festival has had their set times posted a month prior to the show. I had hope that an update would come last night when they announced the "Book the Band" winner, but no luck.

I think we know that The Police/Modest Mouse is one major conflict, and I'm assuming that 311 will go head-to-head with The Smashing Pumpkins since 311.com has the band headlining the South Stage (75 min. set).

Wow, that's the first festival line-up I've seen where I'd have no conflicts, except maybe TVOTR and the Beasties. Everything else lines up perfectly. Shame I'm out of town.

Me neither. But that's because I can count the number of bands I'd actually want to see on one hand! ;)

Kinda sucks that Modest Mouse and the Police are the same time, but no real bitching. The four bands I really wanted to see on day 2 (SP, Spoon, YYYs, Interpol) are all mainstage, so that's good. I can go see half of EITS and Bad Brains during Panic at the Disco too.

See, I'd think the Pumpkins would be skip-able, due to the fact that you saw a full set on a much smaller stage. If you've never seen MIA, seems an easy choice.

Any other Virgin Festival planning needed? I'm happy to help.

PLUS i can still catch like 30 mins of the SP set before MIA anyway.

i'm also torn between amy winehouse and paolo nutini, but maybe amy won't show up and that'll make things easier.

The Police the same time as Modest Mouse does suck. Guess I got to go with the Police since Modest Mouse will be back again at another time, probably a smaller venue. Other then that, everythign looks good. Can't really complain. Last year was Chilli Peppers vs Flaming Lips, and i still had a GREAT time.

Thanks for the set times! I've been checking the Virgin Festival Web site about 20 times a day for these.

I expected a few conflicts, but everything is going to work out just fine.

Saturday, I'll check out Fiction Plane and a bit of LCD Soundsystem and Paolo Nutini in between sets; North Stage the rest of the day. I'd love to see TV on the Radio and Modest Mouse, but they're just not as important to me as Beasties or Police.

Sunday, I'll probably show up later and skip CSS/Aiden. Regina Spektor/Spoon interest me, then Explosions in the Sky/Bad Brains while I find food. Yeah Yeah Yeahs have a pretty nice set while South Stage takes a break and then it's Interpol and the Pumpkins! It sucks that I won't get to see ANY of 311, but I just saw them last week. No biggie.

I'm surprised mia is playing so late. I'm glad because i was afraid css and mia would be playing at the same time.

Pumpkins - MIA conflict suuuuucks, but I've never seen Corgan and company live. I guess it'll be Pumpkins to close out the show for me.

And if it says Crystal Method "DJ Set", what does that mean? I like Crystal Method but I'm not an expert on the science of electronic music. Does that mean that they won't be playing their own songs? Someone help here.

I'll be in Chicago, but I gotta say, that Fountains of Wayne/Cheap Trick back to back lineup would be AWESOME. Of course, I'd likely never get out there on time to catch all of FoW.

i know this festival happened last weekend but i have been reading about what i missed and i want to say that this lineup is awesome.

soooo much better than last year where all the big bands played on one stage and the little guys (save the flaming lips) played on the other.

it really made for a stagnant crowd, not much going from stage to stage. i bet more than 1/2 the crowd just came in and parked it in front of the big stage.

this year seems to be designed to keep people moving around and therefore a much better experience.

indeed - mia gets boring after about 10 minutes :) did anyone catch her set? did you like it? i walked away from her show at lolla after 15 minutes, i just couldn't get into it.

for future reference: generally, electronic musicians' performances fall into two categories, "live PA" and "DJ set".

a live set implies that they'll have computers & possibly syntheziers on stage with them and will be "performing" their music "live" (i use the quotes since the music wasn't written live and isn't meant to be performed live, so they make up an on-stage approximation). during a live set, they generally play only their stuff. a synonym might be "live remixing". live drumming, guitars, vocals, etc can also be incorporated. depending on the act, putting on a live set can be a pain - dragging out lots of equipment, big set-up time, and plenty of opportunities for things to go wrong (like computer crashes) and ruin the set.

a DJ set, as the name implies, means that the artists will be spinning CDs and/or records. while this allows the flexibility to incorporate other artists' work into the set, some acts (and i'd suspect that the chemicals are in this camp) will still only spin their own stuff. expect to hear unreleased remixes of familiar tracks.

Sweet - Both TheDirector and I caught M.I.As set. She brought it.

I can honestly say I danced for her entire set, but then again, I probably like her music (and style) a lot more than most on the board. Her voice was beginning to give toward the end, but she recognized it and still kept on.

Short of the guy in front of me in the Bob Marley shirt with glow sticks who was prepared for a rave, it was a blast and I think I made the right decision with her over SP.

Also, as a result of her set, I've detemined I too need a 'hype girl' to follow me around and dance and shout in the background.
