NME #1 album prediction

They all use the same cologne, too.
BTW, any 2005 top 50 list is meaningless without MMJ, Sinead, Ryan Adams, or Fiona Apple.

And how did Oasis even crack the top 100? That would be like a US reviewer thinking that the Black Crowes were still in the conversation.

Oasis is still a relevant album-releasing band, with singles that top the UK/European charts, whereas the Black Crowes are not. Plus, Oasis can still fill a 100,000 seat stadium, the Black Crowes could not.

I'm not a big fan of Oasis anymore, but the fact remains that their fanbase in UK and Europe remains rabid and enormous, and a lot of people really liked their latest record.

Oasis can fill a 100,000 seat stadium in Europe, but not here. It took weeks for their Madison Square Garden show to sell out. Meanwhile, the Crowes sold out 7 nights at the Hammerstein Ballroom and their NYE show at MSG in a few days.

Are 100,000 people less impressive in Europe than in the States?

And according to what I read, Oasis' MSG show sold out in less than a day. That's considerably less than "weeks". Plus, a New Years Eve show is a bit more of an event than a regular show in June, which is what the Oasis show was. Would the Black Crowes sell it out in March?

And filling the 3,0000-seat Hammerstein for 7 days is impressive. Of course, the Arctic Monkeys just sold out a 2,000-head venue (in Europe), and that was with only one single out. So it's all relative.
Just because Oasis sold out a 100,000 person venue in Europe doesn't make them relevant. That would mean that despite all of the crap that Metallica and DMB have been putting out for the past ten years, their ticket sales would overshadow their disappointing recent output.

The new Oasis album was not good. They haven't had even a "good" album since Morning Glory. You could take a dump on acetate and the Brit press would swarm to it like flies. If they aren't careful, Pete Doherty's career might become the Brits' crowning acheivement of this decade.
uh, yes.

I'm a little bothered by the frequency that the Arcade Fire is showing up on lists for this year - NME and otherwise, and not just in the UK. They got a Grammy nod for Funeral. What the hell? Are we just rewriting when this was released? It isn't even as though it was reissued this year on a major or something. It is still on Merge.

Oh, and I second the previous statement that Ryan Adams has to be included on any year end lists - both of his albums were among the best things I heard this year.

It actually makes them very relevant. NME and Q are British mags not American. So it should not suprise anyone to see Oasis on the list. They are one of the biggest acts in the UK and Europe.

You're just jealous because I went to the same school as the Hoffmeister.

Me too, yet different schools. Just think, if we played our cards right, we could have starred in Bay Watch. "Bay Watch: The Lost Episodes".

Now I see where you guys got all got your personal top 10 lists from. You all read the same magazines and buy the same albums.
Not me. None of anyone's would have been on my list that I don't feel like bothering to make. In fact, probably the only person on this forum who might overlap with some of mine would be Friend Of Guy Chadwick. See Rhett, you're not the only outcast here. ;)

One of my tops, and maybe even my #1 slot would be:
Flavor Crystals - On Plastic

But I'm sure the NME have no clue who they are or feel they aren't showy enough.
