All joking aside, the best English-language movie of 2005 was The New World, IMHO. Unfortunately, I guess it just wasn't seen by enough voters or it didn't get enough press, possibly because it wasn't released widely until last January. I was shocked and angry when it didn't win the lone Oscar it was nominated for, Best Cinematography.
