Anyone want to race?
Mario Kart DS
What good are two screens? Couldn't they just make it one bigger screen?
Originally posted by Hanover Fiste:I never understood that either. Nintendo is really doing some bonehead stuff. Their new system has a controller that looks like a TV remote and responds to your hand moving, so you like have to flick it to get Mario to jump. I'm not explaining it well, but if you see it, you'll understand what I mean and why it'll bomb.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about this...

the point of the new controller is that it isn't complicated like the multi-button ps2 and xbox controllers. nintendo is aiming for those people who get want to play video games but want a more straight forward method of controlling the action the screen. scoff all you want but not everyone wants to play endless FPS games.
the DS is taking off amongst the older female demographic because of games like Nintendogs…
ps i doubt the new revolution bombs, if for the fact that it will have a normal controller and access to 20 years worth of game titles. can xbox or ps2 claim that fanboys?

And if so, I will trade the ability to play Super Mario and it's 32 bit graphics for high defo Halo anyday of the week. Now the original Legend of Zelda, there's a discussion worth having. Still the most influential video game since pong, if not ever created, in my eyes.
Originally posted by kosmo vinyl:The problem is it still looks really complicated. Because it is 2 units it looks even more complicated than a regular controller.

Right now it seems nintendo is doing well in the portable market.
I think they did get carried away with that new controller design. I'd rather just have a gyroscopic mode available in a regular style controller. So in a racing or flying game, for example, you'd be able to turn the whole controller to steer instead of working the little jostick with your thumb

the analog stick seen in those pictures is an optional attachment for the controller which would mean that not all Revolution games would make use of it and could be detached.
remember the controller is designed to work like a remote, as sensors will be placed near the TV to follow track what's being pointing at like a laser pointer. and yes gyroscopic funtionality would be nice and it could be added as peripheral.
and there is a GC disc out there that collects all the various Zelda titles together, what will be cool is to be able to play the various versions of Mario Cart on the Revolution…

I haven't played any version of Mario Kart since the Game Cube version, which I found to be pretty dreadful. Sure, the courses were fun, but the battle mode was utterly pointless. Nothing beats Mario Kart 64.

Originally posted by kosmo vinyl:I second that idea about Mario Kart. I have that Zelda disc, but haven't played it yet. I was playing Majora's Mask on N64, and was close to beating it when one day it froze and deleted all my data. So now I have to start all over  . But now that I have the GC disc, it'll be nice to be saving to a memory card instead…

Mario Kart on the SNES had a much better battle mode.
Then maybe I'm getting them confused…
Was the SNES version the first one? If so, while I did love it, I always loved the four player, 3D battles much more. Nothing beats those.
Now please don't berate me like you do Doctor Doom…

nintendo is being creative
ds > psp
also the revolution is supposed to cost anywhere between $99 to $150, much cheaper than the 360 or ps2.

Right…I just couldn't remember which system the original was on.
I do have fond memories of that original Mario Kart and my brother and I getting into fist fights over the races and battles. Those were the days…
