Lake Trout/Cedars Roll Call

Also an excuse for me to find out if I should buy tickets in advance? After all, it's Friday night and all the hipsters may have purchased their tickets so they can stand in the middle of the room and talk loudly to one another while the show is going on. Will it sell out?

Also, looking forward to see Fico and the gang on the mainstage.
I hope it doesn't sell out because I'm expecting to buy at the door on Friday…
Thinking about it. But if their amps blow I am running out the door…
So what's Lake Trout like?? I heard their Woxy lounge session and a couple of tracks from their website…obviously all through the PC speakers at work so can't make a proper opinion on them…

it should be great fun and we're excited to play…many new songs and re-arrangements to old tracks..and always great to play a big sized stage…hope to see some familiar faces there..we'll most likely be pushing merch after finishing our set and loading out…so come and say hello….
I love Lake Trout, their latest release is on my Top 5 of this year. I've seen them twice recently and both shows were great.

They've really changed over the years. When they first started they did a lot of instrumentals and were sort of embraced by the jamband community. Hippies loved them at first, but have since turned on them because they are NOT a jamband. Indie folks have never really embraced them. Now they're sort of labeled "alternative". A review says:

"Lake Trout is a whopper of a band, and Not Them, You is the kind of disc you stuff and proudly display above your mantlepiece. They may still get lumped in with the jam band masses, but it's entirely unjustified; their current approach incorporates elements of indie groove, an electronic edge and even a dose of New Wave, then builds on that foundation with tasteful doses of psychedelia and guitar menace. The product of a year spent working with producers Tony Doogan (Mogwai, Delgados) and Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev), Not Them, You brims with all the bravado and swagger that its title suggests."

They added more vocals and different song structures…..they got a lot of acclaim a few years ago and were picked up by Gary Kurfist, who managed the Ramones. Chris Blackwell (U2, Marley, Siouxsie) signed them to his label after he sold Island. None of that worked out, for various reasons, and they are sort of on their own now, but their agent at William Morris still really believes in them, that's how they got the opening slot for Pixies on a few dates.

Instrumentation is lead guitar, lead vocals/rhythm guitar, bass, drums, keys/flute (yes, flute).

Have a great show, wish I could be there, but I'll be out of town.
Worth it just to see their drummer. He is amazing.
Does he get more than a 10% cut?

saw them in NYC at mercury lounge and the place was pretty packed, but i think a good number of people were there to see the openers (runner and the thermodynamics) … the lake trout fans were 90% hippie (this was maybe 2 yrs ago) … giving you guys a shout-out in express on friday …

They're from Baltimore and I've seen them there and it was packed, of course. Not sure how many people they'll pull at Black Cat. A guess is 500.
Jam band alert!
I'll be there, Fico, can't wait to hear your newest work.

Lake Trout will pull lots of local friends who are ready to kick-off the holidays with them - since they've been out on a killer, back-to-back tour schedule. Just out of curiousity, who/what are these "hippies" you expert demographers stick a label on?

Many of the L.T.'s friends/fans are their chums from high school, college, and from various straight jobs they've held in the area - sort of like where some of us civilians get our friends from.

smelly, long-haired jam band fans, that was the overwhelming majority of their fans at the NYC show i went to … there were also a lot of people there for runner (weird opener for lake trout), and a lot of people left when they were done

Are you talking to me? If so, answer: jamband fans. Hippies. Generalizations, for sure. But years ago, that was the crowd at a Lake Trout show. They used to pack Trax and it was all the Spreadheads and PhishPhans. Those fans are no longer interested since LT added more vocals and started shortening their songs.

With this band and this genre, yes, I am an expert demographer.

jajajaja…their live lounge performance at Woxy was pretty good..didn't hear anything to suggest they were a jamband…but you lot know more about them and their history than me so I'll digress…
