Sigh, why can't we have a night like this...

So, I'm heading back to SF for work next week, looking for a show and I see the line-up for Wednesday night.
Raconteurs at Bimbo's
Yeasayer and Man Man at GAMH
DCFC and Cave Singers at the Fillmore
Caribou and Fuck Buttoms at the Independent
The Verve @ Warfield
Same night. Maybe DC could hit three of these at once, maybe. But, we're not SF.

Why do you want a night like this? So everybody here can complain about having too many choices?

Fair enough on the complaining, but my point was that DC couldn't handle a night like this, either in fans or venues. And that makes me sad. And makes me wanna live in SF.

I think the Bay Area has about three times as many people as Washington-Baltimore.

i can't wait until worldwide riots take over our sense of style and execute our need to have this little thing called paid for entertainment. the price of food will cause the low men to reach for the ones on the totem pole tops.
i'm gonna have my fun before this whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Have you ever considered the the 9:30 Club's de facto monopoly on the mid-sized venue market in DC has more to do with us "not having a night like that" than anything else?
I don't believe for one red second that DCFC, The Verve, and The Raconteurs couldn't all sell out on the same night in DC, there's just a lack of venues in which to put them.

Live in San Fran???? Are you serious??? I know we would all like for DC to have a more vibrant music scene, but that doesn't mean you should want to move to the U.S.S.R in order to get it.

Comparable venues for those SF venues would be 9:30, Warner and The Black Cat. Why couldn't those 3 bands play those?

I was under the impression that the 3 SF venues listed for those bands are all 1500-2000 person venues? Black Cat isn't comparable, and Warner rarely if ever books anything.

Redsock,
That's the week before Coachella weekend. It happens to SF every year.
But, SF gets some rare ones on Thursday, Friday and Saturday:
Thursday - Calvin Harris at 330 Ritch
Friday - Plasticines at Rickshaw Stop
Saturday - Goldfrapp at Warfield (early)
Saturday - Simian Mobile Disco / Cut Copy / Black Kids @ Mezzanine (late, doors at 10)
bonus on Sunday: The Mae Shi with PRE and XBXRX at Bottom of the Hill.
See you Saturday and Sunday?

The Warfield is pretty large. Im sure it holds more than 1500-2000. And Bimbo's isnt all that big. There is no way it holds that many people. Id guess The Fillmore and GAMH hold around that many.

It looks like The Warfield holds 2250 and Bimbo's is about 700. I think The Fillmore is right in there. The Warner books shows occasionally. It's rare, but it happens. Weren't there a couple of Widespread Panic shows there last week?

Clearly this thread needs some ombudsmanship:
Warfield 2,500
Fillmore 1,250
Bimbos 700
Great American Music Hall 600
Independent 500
San Francisco Bay Area (including San Jose) 7.2 Million People
DC/Baltimore 8.2 Million People
Oh, and the USSR doesn't exist any longer. Hasn't for almost 20 years.

Whoa! I guess my memories of living there 31 years ago are deceiving me.

With the White House leadership we have nowadays, who needs Soviet communists.

Sadly, I'm on a red-eye friday night and will not be there over the weekend. I'd check out Calvin Harris at Popscene, but I am not in love with that place. Waited waaay to long in line to see Vampire Weekend earlier this year, and was unimpressed completely with the band and the venue. Though a lot of acts play there I'd like to see. Bottom of the Hill is a bit better Venue IMHO, though I perfer Popscene's location.
