Shins Roll Call

they went on at 11.05 and played for a bit over an hour. the sound was not great. it was perfect on some songs and way off on others. but they do have a fun, socal, beach sound. i actually think a pairing with the thrills at the 930 would be a nice combo. i skipped both openers so can't comment there.
Dont you wish you had bought tickets for both nights, so you could go back and hear the same exact songs with the sound done right?

everything you say is snide. do you do that on purpose?
What is snide about the truth?

i just think its funny you repetitively make fun of people for going to repetitive shows.
I'm glad I made to laugh. I have achieved my goal.

I thought that the first half of the show was somewhat hit or miss but second half was really solid. They seem to pick up the pacing of most of their songs and because of this a lot of them sound very similar. I know both discs really well and I still found myself thinking several times, "didn't they play this already?" Gone for Good is one hell of a song.

I thought the crowd was awful last night. I guess this is to be expected when you have a band that is loved by the college kids and hipsters and the cover is only $12. Very few people seemed to know the music and there was a hell of a lot of talking going on. I got in an argument with a stupid broad during New Slang who I told to stop talking…she told me that she was there to socialize–not listen to the music. She also said that she will be there for the second show and suggested that I not stand next to her again.
actually where i was, towards the front, wasn't too bad, surprisingly.
Sitting way in the back (love those comfy couches) everyone and his brother was talking. I think its cause their music is a little softer and mellower. Still, just wrong…
OK,

I'm about to pee my pants I'm so excited for the show tonight. Does anyone have a set list for last night?

AllmyMoney, I think talking during new slang is reason enough to hit someone.

Also, Check this out, this guy has a really good live show from Austin posted here. The show is from Nov 2003.

Also, important question since I've only been to one black cat show and it wasn't sold out… how crowded was the place, and what time would you suggest getting there?

Thanks!

Looked crowded up front. Plenty of room in the very back. We got there at 10:00 and ended up pretty much even with the front of the soundboard, maybe 2/3 of the way back. It would have been pretty easy to move up a few more feet, if we had wanted to.

When did the Black Cat get a coat check? I never noticed that until last night.

Why would anyone go to BOTH shows just to socialize?
Yes, that is good news. Thanks for mentioning it!

Do they have valet parking yet?
No, but they still maintain their chop shop.

When they have valet parking, then we know we're just in L.A. and it's all been an East Coast dream….

does that mean winter will be over??
I went last night. I was pretty far up, and there was no one talking around me. A few people with unique styles of dancing, though. And I agree that the second half was better than the first.
