Daft Punk - NYC 8/9/07 - Roll Call

No sleep. Body still hasn't crashed yet from the show. I'm still on a high from last night. That shit was a spectacle the likes of which I have never seen. Just . . . . WOW! It's impossible to describe a Daft Punk show. I'll just say it's an all-out assault on the senses. Yeah. Sensory overload. An imperfect description for a perfect night.

ladies and gentlemen, we have another convert. all hail the robots.

as powerful as this show it, i recognize it won't appeal to everyone. if you're not into electronic music, if you need to see people on stage as opposed to having the stage *be* the show, if you need something cerebral - DP are going to bore you. however, for some of us… woa.

thanks. still a poor substitute for being there. i hope they release a DVD of this tour, with one of those multi-angle thing where you can pick your point-of-view. if someone happens to come across a decent-sounding bootleg, please let us know.

Well I have the Coachella 06 set in an Apple friendly (Ipod, Iphone, Itunes, AppleTV) format and I'd say it's B+ visually and A- Audio wise… that those feindin for nicotine can have. I could burn it onto a DVD but you won't be able to control the angles though it's professionally shot.

That shit made me laugh so loud my co-workers are looking at me. I was a little *ahem* wrapped up in the moment, fam. :D

FYI - Ladies love them some Daft Punk. Which attributed to the shaky camera movement. It's hard to keep a girl in the right tempo plus take killer footage. Sure as hell is fun trying, though . . .

you saw this show last week, silly.

but that encore was just..wow.

they really came through with the sound system. the bass was so thick it would make my nose itch. if those subs were kicking any more, people would've had to come strapped w/ pampers © rebel ins

i really like that venue for shows. we exited the venue and headed towards the beach, walking down the boardwalk… the breeze by the ocean felt great after that sweatfest. if LCD/arcade fire was there, i'd probably go (i don't want to deal with randall's island).
yes - so very true about just havign seen them. glad to hear it was an awesome night.

but the randall's island comment is what i really needed. that will make it official that im not going to see AF there nor LCD soundsystem.

so - how close were you to the stage? :)
I want to DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

I got back to DC in time for my very important meeting and I KNOW I must've looked like a crackhead. I had the stamp on my hand from last night, body glitter on my neck, and the most bloodshot eyes this side of the Potomac.

ANYWAY, about the show…just…A+.

I didn't take as many pics as I did in Seattle/Denver, but this was my favorite shot of the night!

TheDirector was right, in that it's hard to take shots *AND* dance your ass off. At one point I remember it was a fucking WAVE of people moving in and out, in rhythm. Just…ridiculous.

judging from ixkpd-bk's picture, about 5ft to the left and 10-15ft back from him.

coolness, let us know if/where you post more. daft's stage set-up makes for some neat pix (mine are here) and vids ( here and here). rock. robot rock. rock…
Well, I did a *kinda* tour blog on my MySpace page:

Here's some pics from Seattle:

<img src="http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c160/FromTheAltarboyInn/P1010250.jpg" alt=" - " />

<img src="http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c160/FromTheAltarboyInn/P1010282.jpg" alt=" - " />

<img src="http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c160/FromTheAltarboyInn/P1010304.jpg" alt=" - " />

And here's some Denver pics:

<img src="http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c160/FromTheAltarboyInn/P1010485.jpg" alt=" - " />

<img src="http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c160/FromTheAltarboyInn/P1010494.jpg" alt=" - " />

Annnnnnnd the grand finale would be meeting Thomas and Guy…

too frickin' cool. aren't these two notoriously shy? that's why they first started wearing robot costumes - to hide behind in public. i didn't know that they actually appeared at these things. aren't too many pictures of those two floating around… nice one. were they nice fellows, or awkward, or full of themselves?
Seriously, they were EXTREMELY friendly. We told them about how we were seeing all the shows and just how great their performance is, and they were SO grateful. Definitely not full of themselves (they gave me passes to NYC).

They're great, though.

For those that downloaded this from me, though there appears to be some missing footage that's the battery switch out on an antiquated DV Corder and the running time of 58 minutes only misses fractions of a song, so you have pretty much everything that was there. Remember they only had an hour that year.

This is some bullshit. No live DVD. :mad:

Exclusive: Live Album To Chronicle Daft Punk Tour

Daft Punk will in late November release a live album chronicling the June 14 Paris stop on its first tour in a decade, Billboard.com can reveal. The as-yet-untitled Capitol set will be available in a single CD edition plus a two-disc set which features the show's encore. As of now, no live DVD companion is in the works, according to the group.

"We're from Paris and we hadn't played there for 10 years," Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter told Billboard last Friday, the afternoon following the tour closer in Brooklyn, N.Y. "It must have been a special night for the audience, as well as for us."

The tour version of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" will be issued as a single from the live set, and a video, directed by Oliver Gondry, will feature footage shot by fans at the Brooklyn show. "It is a montage of people shooting the song in the audience with 250 cameras," Bangalter says. "We were inspired by the Beastie Boys' 'Awesome, I F***in' Shot That!' and tried to do that in a four-minute video."

Daft Punk will return to the U.S. in late October for a performance at the Vegoose Festival in Las Vegas, and is weighing offers for more shows next year. After such a long layoff from live performance, the group admits it was blown away by the response to the recent North American shows, which included a co-headlining performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

"We pretty much felt it everywhere, which was fascinating," Bangalter says. "It was a big deal each time. It's a big deal for us each time, too, which is what keeps it fresh."

With a stroke of good timing, Daft Punk is also in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to the "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" sample Kanye West utilizes on his new hit, "Stronger."

The two acts did not collaborate in the studio, and the actors who portray the Daft Punk robots in the film "Electroma" took Bangalter and partner Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo's place in the "Stronger" video. But the pair say they are thrilled with how West's track turned out, having heard first heard it on Los Angeles station Power 106 while waiting for a recent flight to San Francisco.

"The DJ had made an edit of our song at the beginning and then it turned into his song," de Homem-Christo says. "Our song had a good sound, but when he put Kanye's record on, the sound was really fat. It sounds really big. It's not a collaboration in the studio, but the vibe of the music we do separately connected in what he did with the song."

Well it's not a big surprise, at least the tour will be archived in some format, and if it's half as good as the first one recorded a decade ago, it'll be the bomb and a worthy addition to all of our collections.

Oh, if you don't already have this, stop what you're doing and order it NOW.

Your recommendation success rate is 100% with me, so I'm on it. One good thing though, looks like they may come back around in '08. Some D.C. love finally??? Maybe??? If The Police got back together, short of a Pink Floyd reunion anything's possible . . . .
