Amy went to rehab

Amy Winehouse finally checked into rehab. I wonder if she'll get better or come out trashier like the Hollywood starlets do.

Wino was hospitalized earlier this week after suffering a drug overdose, according to various reports, confirmed by a close family member.

Says Amyâ??s father-in-law, â??[My son Blake, Winehouseâ??s husband] He told me he was very worried about her. He admitted they both drank and did drugs but that came as no surprise. It was bought on by all her excesses. Yes, work is one of them, but thereâ??s the drink and drugs too. Sheâ??s got to get a grip on herself before itâ??s too late.â?

Wino is now recuperating at The Priory rehab in Roehampton, South West London.
i cant wait til we're all like, "remember that amy winehouse chick, whatever happened to that talentless bitch"

Just how excessive is her work schedule?

get up. drink. purge. drink. wonder where blake is. drink. brush the four teeth in mouth. drink. contemplate new tattoo. drink. sob. drink. cut stomach with shard of glass. drink. call blake. drink. watch tv. drink. curse bono after seeing him on tv. drink. purge. drink. drink. nap. drink. not show up at an interview. drink. sleep with blake. drink. forget where she is. drink. skip concert. drink. pass out. repeat.
Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm feeling duped and feel a refund is order for her album. I was clearly mislead about her and Rehab…

<threadjack>

It's not the singer I hate, so much as the producer. Still not quite sure why Mark Ronson is so highly touted as a producer. Had the extreme misfortune of seeing the video for the "version" of a Smiths song from his solo album. Not only did it feature a fourth rate Andy Bell, the backing track was unbearable to listen to. My inner Elvis was close to taking action…
Hey, don't knock Nick Ronson. After all, he was the house dj for the TomKat wedding.
I actually like Mr. Ronson's version of "Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before" but it loses a certain amount of its appeal after you see the singer/video.

He seems overrated by the UK audience, but I'm not sure how well-known he is here.
I watch that video of the Smiths cover and just think its very 'british' . . . those earnest good looking folks in good looking places crying animated tears to a queered up Smiths song (the irony) seems to me to tap into the same vibe that results in massive clap-alongs at 'events' at Wembley (like the Diana thing) or folks turning up to Robbie Williams concerts by the 100,000's.

Amy Winehouse and Lindsey Lohan bother me b/c they seem like identity crises gone horribly wrong. They aren't who they're supposed to be.

What does that mean? "They aren't who they're supposed to be." You think there's some sensitive Regina Spektor-like chanteuse deep within Amy Winehouse that's being kept down by the MAN (in this case, Mr. Jack Daniels)? Lindsay Lohan would be the next Helen Hayes if it weren't for the blow (various definitions)?

I'm sorry. I don't mean to get all Ted Nugent on y'all but I don't feel much sympathy at all for those creative/celebrity types who lose it to drugs/drink/addictions. There are millions of people all over the world who are weak and addicted and they don't have one millionth of the support system and financial resources that someone like Lindsay Lohan does. It's excused that she does a lot of drugs because she has awful parents? Boo-f'ing-hoo. Let's ignore all the hopeless junkies in England but let's champion Pete Doherty because he has such sky-scraping talent? No way. Most of these people (Winehouse, Robert Downey, Jr., Britney Spears, etc.) are just weaker than the rest of us and have worse self-esteem. We shouldn't feel sorry for these people. We shouldn't even pity them. "Ignore" seems to be the correct word.

Most likely the people around them are not supporting them. Well, maybe their behavior and habit.

Maybe six months to a year away.
I completely agree with this.

Brian's attempt at being controversial is thwarted!

And I third the notion.

Celebs are fucking babies. You act like attention-starved whores and then complain when your picture is the in paper? Look, I don't want to be a cop because I don't want to get shot. If you don't want media attention, don't become a celebrity.*

*Please note: for the right amount of money, I would become a celebrity. I have no principles.

Brian's thoughts here
I think his response on the foo thread is more controversial than the above.
But would you become a cop for the right amount of money? And how much money would that be?

Its a lifestyle that suits certain people, and certain people's creativity. For example, it fit Slash like a glove. (But if, say, Lenny Kravitz were a 'trainwreck' it would look stupid). But, of course, Slash never got arrested b/c he knew what he was doing.

To paraphrase Super Troopers, some people's shananigans are cheeky and fun and some are evil and tragic.

Based on their work, Winehouse and Lohan both have (had?) a talent for what they do, and their current lifestyles seem to serve to erode that talent and not enhance it/serve it. I'm not talking about whether anyone should feel sorry for them, or how the media portrays them, but that they both seem to want to be something they're not - or rather something that doesn't suit them.

I'm not familiar with Helen Hayes' work, but Lohan is/was extremely likable on screen. Mean Girls had a satisfying ending b/c she did the right thing and rejected a similar 'scene' to what is now ruining her.

Maybe this is all that makes Winehouse interesting. Maybe if she cleans up she's Joss Stone. But I think if she could be a lot more interesting if she found some balance and just immersed herself w/ the creative people who respect her - like Prince or bull930.

Both should have gone to college.

That's way more thought on those two than I ever wanted to do. Gotta love the dog days of summer.
