Ireland's Rosanna Davison Named Miss World

Ireland's Rosanna Davison was crowned Miss World on Saturday, beating 105 other women from around the globe at the competition held at this southern Chinese tropical resort.

The 19-year-old Davison - daughter of Chris De Burgh, the singer best known for his 1995 hit "Lady in Red - accepted her tiara with minimum fuss, waving calmly to the audience as the other contestants hugged and kissed her while gold confetti were fired out of a mock cannon.

"I was just so thrilled about being placed in the top five," she said afterward, grinning broadly. "I didn't think I'd get this far." Davidson also won the "Beach Beauty" award.

Miss Canada, Nazanin Afshin-Jam, took second, while host country's Miss China, Guan Qi, placed third.

What would Bill Oddie say about it?

She don't sound Canadian to me. Any relation to Sonick?

The point is….she is an 'average' looking girl for IRISH! The plateau of average is definately higher on that Island…and they have nice personalities to go along with the looks, unlike the "my shit doesn't stink" attitude of some other nationalities. ;) ;)
