The parents of a girl paralyzed in an accident caused by a drunken football fan sued the NFL, contending the league should be held responsible for the girl's injuries.

The lawsuit says the league promotes the kind of behavior that led the fan to drink 14 beers at a New York Giants game in 1999 and then drive home.

Ronald and Fazila Verni of Cliffside Park initially filed their suit in 2001, but it was refiled Thursday to include the NFL and commissioner Paul Tagliabue as defendants.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league had not been served with a copy of the lawsuit and declined comment. The Giants referred inquiries to their lawyer, who did not immediately return a call Friday.

Palo Alto Parents Sue Over Son's Suicide
Couple Claim Teenager's Death Caused By Acne Drug

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The parents of a teenage Palo Alto boy who threw himself in front of a train are suing the makers of an acne drug they blame for his suicide.

Barry and Laurie Wertheimer sued drug giant Hoffmann-La Roche in Santa Clara County Superior Court this week over their prescription drug, Accutane.

The Wertheimers are charging the company with negligence, fraud and deceit, and medical negligence – among other things.

The New Jersey-based drug company argues that Accutane has been safely prescribed to 13 million patients worldwide during the two decades it's been available.

Steven Wertheimer stepped in front of a speeding Amtrak train on the morning of Oct. 7, 2002.

Authorities say young Werthheimer was last prescribed a two-week supply of the drug five months before his suicide.

And the Federal Drug Administration says that between 1982 and 2000, 147 people taking Accutane either committed suicide or tried to, a much lower rate than for all U.S. citizens ages 15 to 24.

Why not sue Amtrack for having the stupidity for putting a train on train tracks that their son was using?

If it wasn't the drug company, than it would have been something like Pizza Hut or Hershey's they would be blaming for causing the break outs. Or maybe the dermetologist for not curing the acne. :roll:

I'm sure they were named in the suit, but I had nothing to do with this one. I was too busy trying denying sexual misconduct allegations against my new boss…..

accutane has been the subject of quite a few allegations like that. . .i think rep. stupak's son, who was using accutane, killed himself due to depression, and the parents have been looking into those accutane allegations.

Some companies try to avoid law suits at all costs……

I've taken the stuff and any depression I got was already there before I ever touched it. Also, (keep this in mind Smackie, if you ever represent them) I would be willing to testify in court that I may have committed suicide if I did NOT have that drug.
