CD burning question
December 05, 2007 at 02:24 PM UTC
#
So every year I burn an end of year 'best of' and inflict it on anyone who will take it.
Is there a way to get itunes/WMP to recognize the tracks on my CD just like they do with regular albums?
Is there a way to submit my track info to CDDB or do they only do commercial releases?
Just curious - thanks

You can at least set the CD Text that's burned on the cd to have the info. I think i've done this in Nero before. I'm not sure if iTunes does this or not.

AFAIK, Gracenote/CDDB automatically accepts anything sent initially but will purge non-commerical titles over time (I don't know how long; days, hours, weeks?). iTunes creates its own user database, mostly taken from Gracenote but also any custom CDs made with iTunes or hand-entered. It also keeps any user edits of Gracenote metadata.

"Include CD Text" is about the only way to do this on iTunes/WMP (it's a checkbox under burning) and will allow CD players that read CD Text to display the tracks (some car stereos for example).
Some CD drives will read CD text and pass that info on to iTunes/WMP. Macs do not support this feature.
I have never submitted to CDDB - sorry I can't hlep you there.
