front runner for my favorite album of the year:
www.middledistancerunner.com AND they are local! What more could you ask for. At IOTA this Saturday, in fact.
I wish they had the whole album posted online, but it is coming out in May. It really is wonderful.

they're quite good - they've been handing out album samplers after 9.30 gigs lately

After Kosmo's raves, I downloaded the MP3s they posted to mp3.washingtonpost.com a few days ago. I really like "Out of Here" especially:

The best comparison that I can come up with for this band is that they are like if Radiohead in 94 had already heard Radiohead in 2004. If that makes any sense.
But the whole album is just dynamite. "Hooks," which I don't believe is up for download anywhere yet, is remarkable.

they are so last week… they have tunage at myspace as well.. and if you planning on attending the show get there early as they sold out Iota the last time they played. i'd be there nodding my head and tapping my foot somewhere in the room, but my evening luv is committed to the Pale Stars and their CD release party up north.

might i also recommend The Rinse, despite being from that B borough i wont hold that against them… they remind a bit of Middle Distance Runner, catchy and a bit quirky unlike many of the other retro guitar/synth acts cluttering the landscape at the moment. got hooked up with them via myspace

come to think about it, if I add MDR and The Bonapartes to Kosmopalooza the numbers could increase dramatically… Let's Talk ;)

Middle Distance Runner Fun Fact: Before every show, band members huddle up, put their hands together and yell “1-2-3 Professionalism!”
