In-n-out on the west coast has the best burgers I've ever had.
5 Guys Appreciation Post

Not a big fan.
the funniest thing about five guys is how they'll put a bunch of napkins on the top of your bag (if you get takeout), right on top of the bundle of greasy ass fries. you pull the napkins out and their basically transparent from the grease. sorta defeats the purpose.
that said, i love me some five guys.

Barnaby's in Silver Spring. They sell beer too.

Yes, people do read it. And not just people I know. So there.

Messiest thing I ever loved to eat.

This is pretty spot on:
The Washington area is densely populated, and lately a good chunk of that population is in the habit of coveting things that are slightly better than what everyone else has.

Jeez…I had no idea there were so many. Usually not a good sign. I've only ever eaten at the arlington one (closed now) and the baileys x roads one…
Lindy's is coasting on a reputation they cemented 20 years ago. It's not as good as it used to be, though still worth an occasional crosstown ride on the 30 bus.
Five Guys is definitely yummy, although the crowds, the dangerously greasy fries, and the mass-production ambience can get a bit tiresome.

Here's the best kept secret in NoVA. JR's steakhouse at Tyson's serves hamburgers only on weekdays, but IMHO they have the best burgers I've ever eaten. They serve only beef from cattle raised specially for them, and grind small quantities for their burgers, and grill 'em on a very high-heat grill. Can you spell "carcinogens?" (but who cares?) JR's burger and a giant bloody mary…once a year for my birthday. Yummmm…just look for the ridiculous (but once functional) windmill off International Drive just down from the Crate and Barrel building. ..Hey Shad: You're my hero! Good on ya for going vegetarian.
…clarification: burgers served only on weekdays AT LUNCH only…sadly.
