For the hitty-runny fans.
Actually, after a few months, I have my doubts about Beckham. I am pretty convinced that Madrid got him for the publicity money they would get out of him rather than for his football abilities. Ronaldinho is far better than him (I am comparing him to Ronaldinho because these were the two acquisitions from the big rivals in Spain).
I agree that Madrid got Beckham for his celeb and marketing status as much as for his football talents, but he's every bit the player he's hyped to be and I would take him any day over the goofy-toothed Brazillian in Barcelona.
Man Utd sure as hell aren't the same team without him, but that's the price you pay when you have an arrogant bastard for a manager.

everytime i waver on not caring, baseball never ceases to make me hate it. now i will watch 4 innings of the world series instead of 3, congrats guys. i was way more interested in beck's defection than arod. at least runny kicky is interesting. although i am still bitter that they called sid bream safe at the plate when he was out by a fucking mile.

As for Manchester United, I don't know, I think that with Henry, Arsenal has the best player in the world and they look really tough in the premier league. I was also surprised by Reyes, the Spaniard they just got and the incredible goals he scored against Chelsea this weekend.

The Yankees suck.
Read "Moneyball", and I dare anyone not to be a fan of the A's.

"Alex Rodriguez is regarded as the best outfield player in baseball and the Yankees will be expected to win the World Series immediately with him in their side."
wait, a-rod doesn't play the outfield.
personally, i don't care about this trade. i still don't like the yankees, and will root against the yankees each year. i will be far more upset if the yankees get maddux instead of the cubs.
i've always liked the a's, but then growing up i was more of a giants fan. but i can't stand the giants nowadays, but that's more because i can't stand barry bonds.
btw, bream was safe!

A's lead best of 5 series 2-0 and LOSE ALL THREE!!!
getting arod is nice and all, but his numbers weren't that much better than soriano's last year, and soriano fits much better on the field and in the line-up. guess you have to grab arod if you have the chance. chemistry could be all off, though.

soriano has played 2nd before. neither jeter nor arod has ever played 3rd. they ARE morons for playing arod at 3rd. now they have a questionable shortstop and a guy out of possition. with soriano, no one has to tell giambi or matsui or whoever they have to bat 6th

LEANDER, Texas – AstroTurf-maker Southwest Recreational Industries Inc., which installed an artificial playing surface at the Louisiana Superdome, has filed for bankruptcy protection and is going out of business.
The bankruptcy leaves projects in limbo at athletic facilities across the country, including new turf scheduled for the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, where the Twins, Vikings and University of Minnesota Golden Gophers play.
Leander-based SRI cut more than 300 jobs before the filing, holding on to 190 employees companywide to help it shut down in the next two weeks, the Austin American-Statesman reported Tuesday.
In its bankruptcy filing, the company said it will sell two small divisions that make portable sports flooring and equipment for volleyball, gymnastics and basketball. But SRI's most well-known products, football fields and running tracks, will be discontinued in the next few weeks.
Calls to SRI went unanswered on Tuesday.
The Friday filing in Rome, Ga., caps a dramatic decline for the company, which once was the industry leader in sports surfaces with millions in sales and fast growth. The heavily indebted company grew faster than management or its systems could handle, according to the bankruptcy filing.
In mid-2003, the company hired a new CEO and an investment banker to explore its options.
"It is surprising to see a company go under so quickly," said Robert Sills, whose company, Martin Surfacing Inc. of Lancaster, Pa., is listed as SRI's second-largest creditor, with a $6.3 million claim. "They were the industry leaders and seemed quite profitable and seemed to be in good shape. And it all came unraveled pretty quickly."
SRI ended the year with $156.9 million in revenue, a nearly 29 percent drop from $220 million in 2002, as reported by business research firm Hoover's Inc.
In its bankruptcy filing, the company said it had about $102 million in assets and $88 million in liabilities as of Dec. 31. It also said the company has more than 1,000 creditors.
AstroTurf, the first artificial playing field surface, was created more than 30 years ago. Artificial turf came to professional sports in 1966, when it was used to carpet the Astrodome, inspiring the AstroTurf brand name.
SRI, which entered into the artificial turf business in 1989, bought AstroTurf Industries Inc. in 1994 from St. Louis-based Balsam Corp., which had filed for bankruptcy.

Remember last season when Arsenal were ahead by 15 points with about 12 games to go? No other team could've come back to win the premiership other than United.

Having said all that, if they don't put a plug in that leaky bucket they call the defence the trophy room at Old Trafford will be empty this summer.
I didn't see the two goals you are talking about, but from what I've seen of him he's very inconsistent.

2001: Arizona Diamondbacks
2002: Anaheim Angels
2003: Florida Marlins
And the same could be said for the top 3 salaries over those years as well - you could probably extend it to the top 5 (I'm guessing Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Braves, and Dodgers).
At first I was pissed at the Evil Empire for making the move, but then I thought to myself, after Kevin Brown gets hurt, does anyone really think that Mussina, Lieber, Vasquez and Contreras are going to get the job done. I sure as hell don't.
If you want to get mad, blame baseball for letting it happen, but then think to yourself, all this is is another distraction for a team that has lost it's focus and it's edge in October. Only Boston is really afraid of this team and I'm not even sure that's true anymore. The best team in the AL will come from the West this year but you won't know it until it happens because the media only focus's on Boston and NY but has missed the improvements made by Oakland, Seattle and Anaheim.
Take Anaheim alone: Seriously - Bartolo Colon, Jarod Washburn, Kelvim Escobar, Ramon Ortiz, Aaron Sele/John Lackey with Brendan Donolley, K-rod and Troy Percival in the pen - and that's just the pitching staff! The only other thing Anaheim did was add 30 HR hitter Jose Guillen and some guy named Vlad Guerrero to join Garret Anderson, Troy Glaus, Adam Kennedy and Darin Erstad.
The pitching in NY is only marginally better than what A-Rod had in Texas. They can score more runs in NY, but they sure as hell are going to have to.
A big YAWN to the move. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Oh yeah, THE YANKEES RULE!!!!!!!!!! Its not their fault the owners that the they pay with the taxes pocket the money instead of going out and getting better players.
