Brian Setzers Big Band Christmas albums are all fun listens

Fun yes

But they are pretty boring really

and i've taken one for the team and the Jon Bon Jovi cover of Fairytale of Christmas is truly awful, couldn't even get half way through it…

Wow that was absolutely insane https://youtu.be/KB9vvxYocW0
(only 6k views…my kids have youtube vids with more views)

I have to imagine the banter between the guys in the sound booth "are you going to tell him? Cause I like my paycheck and don't plan on telling him how bad this is"
His accents kill me.  It almost seems like a parody it's soo bad.

has renewed my interest in seeing the Julian temple Crock Of Gold movie …

Some good commentary here:

I only made it to 3:40

It’s pretty bad but the song is so damn good I still got goosebumps…I don’t begrudge him trying

But It’s one of those songs nobody should ever cover.. I mean come on Shane inhabits and lives the song and Kirsty MacColl (RIP you are missed and more so this time of year)  maybe the greatest female voice of the past forty years….come on!
we can sure derail a thread in these parts… according to the twitter JBJ's take on Petty's christmas tune "Christmas All Over Again" is equally painful, there is speculation it's due to his aging voice and it's really beginning to show the wear and tear.

and having grown up listening to big band I've always enjoyed Setzers foray into big band arrangements and i'd much rather listen to him channel his inner sinatra verses robbie williams numerous attempts at crooning

i also liked Chris Isaak's  christmas album, but it's essentially an elvis rehash

motown always turned out great Christmas tune arrangements and my one of leading favorites will always be Marvin Gaye's Purple Snowflakes
Look I like Setzer but his Christmas stuff is pretty boring but if people enjoy it more than I do great! I find his Big Band stuff commendable and enjoyable enough… it’s just missing any creativity.. it was done decades ago.. by better singers, with better musicians, better arrangers etc

Hopefully some people that like it will explore the real shit but not banking on it
Two more additions

Kacey Musgraves - A Very Kacey Christmas

lots of the redone classics, but a couple of originals including "A Willie Nice Christmas"

Emmy The Great + Tim Wheeler -  This is Christmas

few more originals on this ones including the classic Zombie Christmas and Christmas Day (I wish I was surfing)  and strangely only the singles from this are on the streaming services and not the whole album.
The Kacey one is a winner

I like this version of 'Fairytale'

Chris Thile even looks a little bit like John Stirratt.
Marc E. Bassy - Die Hard

DON'T YOU DARE TELL ME THAT ISN'T A CHRISTMAS SONG
So this song (which I've credited to Wings in the past) is 100% paul
is really a crime against humanity….but what makes it worse is
it was estimated  that McCartney makes $500,000 a year from this song, which puts its cumulative earnings at over $20 million

He should really have all royalties go to charity…

I'm assuming from the context clues that godawful Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time song.
This thread makes me miss Mankie….here are some my faves.

Gaz Coombes & Adam Buxton - I believe in Father Christmas

Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody

Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday

Elton John - Step Into Xmas

Jona Lewie - Stop the Cavalry

The Vandals - Oi to the World

Chris Rea - Driving Home for Christmas

Cliff Richard - Mistletoe and Wine

Robbie Williams - Bad Sharon ft. Tyson Fury  (Snowflakes is also brilliant)

I concur with Kosmo, and would add anything off of Bad Religions Xmas album, She and Him's album and if you want to some compilations The OC Christmukkah album, The Edge of Christmas, Holidays Rule, etc….
