Question about Sonar

Is it located in a shady area of Baltimore?

I've been to the Talking Head club area (alley) and that's my definition of shady..

Well its only a few blocks (1 block north and 2 blocks east) from Talking Head, so if you think Talking Head is in a shady part of town, then Sonar is too. Sonar isn't as secluded as Talking Head though and there is generally more traffic around… from street traffic to show attendees since the shows at Sonar are going to be a bigger draw, plus sometimes they have 2 or 3 things going on at once. Basically I've never felt I was really in danger going to a show at Talking Head, but do get that sketchy vibe. I've always felt safe going to a show at Sonar though… that probably has a lot to do with the large parking lot right across the street though.

My initial response would be no, it's not shady at all. There's a big, free parking lot right across the street, so you'll only have to cross the street to get into the club.

However, if you think the Talking Head is shady, I doubt there's anywhere in Baltimore, outside the Inner Harbor, that you wouldn't find shady. Sonar is not far from the Talking Head.

ok thanks to you both…I just got scared when I went to the Talking Head (had to park my car 3 blocks away) and when I got there, the bands hadn't even arrived (at 9 pm!). I ended up leaving. If the parking lot is just across the street from Sonar, then I'll most likely go to a show there then..

As long as you get there reasonably close to when the show starts, you won't have any trouble getting a good parking spot, especially if it's not sold out. Just remember it's a free lot - sometimes panhandlers try to collect a nonexistant parking fee or the always popular "I'll watch your car" fee.

It's definitely shady but about as shady as H St., most of the U St. corridor and probably most of the other haunts you may frequent. The odds may be in your favor that all will go fine but always take your street smarts with you in case you pull the unlucky number for the evening.

Comes complete with 10pm shootings in front of the Ellington too! People must be really pissed the big flea market is gone from that parking lot.

So in response to that, after installing sun lamps for street lights on T St, the police put up a generator light at 14th and T St (as if it's not already lit up well) Made it look like they were ready to shoot King Kong climbing the Empire State Bldg scene!
