owes nothing? would there even be a mercury rev if the lips never existed?
well, either way, last time i saw the Flaming Lips they put on some big dumb show with stupid stage antics and so many props, they only played 4 songs. weak.
doves / mercury rev show?
i do agree that wayne might be, and that's a huge "MIGHT BE" getting in over his head with the popularity of the lips. god, not another mick j.!!!! only the music will tell. the new album this summer should break 'em or make 'em even more. am i'm not 100%, but i think the lips might have started in pre-eighty-five, but i'll have to consult my yoshima blow up doll.

First MR should thank Sony for signing them and re-issuing Yerself is Steam, jumpstarting a band in virtual limbo. The second being one owed to Donahue by the Flaming Lips, for coming aboard and recording arguably the Lips best albums In a Priest Driven Ambulance and Hit to Death in The Future Head.MR should also thank Dean Wareham for Car Wash Hair, the single that propelled them to exposure the likes they'd never seen.
If anything I would say flaming lips owe mercury rev
Originally posted by ratioci nation:so Donahue was in both bands???? interesting!
at the same time Donahue and Fridmann were also working on the Flaming Lips' major-label bow, Hit to Death in the Future Head.
whats interesting is that if you look up the Flaming Lips on allmusic, Mercury Rev is listed in the "See also" category. but when looking up Mercury Rev, the lips are "Similar Artists"

i went to see sonic youth and wilco at dar, and stayed around for wilco to give them a chance, and man did they ever dissapoint.

What's with the rolly-eyes?
If walkonby doesn't like Wilco, that's okay by me. I'm just pointing out that the DAR show was an atypical Wilco show.

it's not that i don't like wilco. that dar show was the only time i've heard them or seen them play. i wasn't impressed, and i have this horrible time of giving bands a "one chance experience," before i cast them to the gutter. i know i shouldn't do that. help me obi-one, you're my only hope. i never would of fell in love with everything lou barlow touches, if i wouldn't have given him another chance after first listening to folk implosion.
so tell me . . . what wilco album, or live whatever should i try to find and listen to, to perhaps sway me toward this thing called wilco.
and with the pixies, i just don't understand. i down right worship on hands and knees, the breeders and of cource, the amps, and i even like frankie black, but something about the pixies turns me cold. weird.

For Wilco, try their Being There album.
Pixies had one great album called Doolittle, and another decent one called Surfer Rosa (which had a fantastic cover photo), but the rest of their stuff, save a song here or there, was crap.

Yes, on the Doolittle tour. Before their inevitable decline.

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is still my favorite…as for the Pixies I'd go for the greatist hits…

Inevitable because they reached their creative peak with Doolittle, and there was no way they were ever going to top it. They were just bound to get fat, bald, and bitchy with one another.

oh god, i think i started another pixies debacle.
tanks for the wilco info. now if someone can tell me where the best place to park for dar is, besides that "always full" parking deck, i'd be set. i hate trying to scour for a place to park for a show there, than any other dc locale. i'd rather try to park for a mci show. i know someone mentioned it on here before, where the best place is in some thread, a while back, but i can't find it. maybe some clues? you can be sneaky if there's no need to just come right out and say it.
