did you just pick every team that wins a lot when you were younger?
Ok moron, the Leafs went most of the 80's without even making the playoffs, the Lakers went the mid 90's without having a good team, the steelers have won zero superbowls since i became a fan around 1978 and didnt do well in the 80's that i can remember and the Yankees didnt start winning again until the mid 90's. My favorite Yankee was Don Mattingly and i never remembered him once being in the playoffs. Its not my fault that now the Yankees have the largest payroll and are winners, or that the lakers traded for Shaq and Kobe and are now winners or that the Steelers made at least seven consecutive playoffs under Cowher and are winners (well except for this year). As for the Leafs well they just became good after all those years of suffering for me. Thats my story and i'm sticking to it!!!!!!!!
Why not just support your hometown team? Or the team closest to your hometown.
Yankees - Most World Series wins by far
Steelers - 2nd most Super Bowl Wins
Lakers - 2nd most championships
Leafs - 2nd most championships
Hoosiers - 3rd most championships

Became a fan cause of the following:

Lakers - Just happened to see a game on tv where the Lakers and Sixers were playing when i was 8 years old. For some reason i picked the Lakers even though they got swept 4-0 by Philly.
Hoosiers - For Christmas one year my Dad got me a mini Hoosiers basketball…..my bro got a Georgetown one……poor guy.
Bulldogs - I cant remember how i became a fan.
Yankees - My fisrt baseball card was Bucky Dent.
Steelers - My first football card was Rocky Bleier.
Leafs - We had a hockey game when i was a kid, Maple Leafs v. Black Hawks, my bro was always the Black Hawks…..Pretty easy guess of who i was….but since we're in the 9:30 forum i'll tell you i was the Maple Leafs.

As for driving past Yankee Stadium on the way to Norhtern Virginia, I actually drove here from Colorado, so unless i took the scenic route, that surely didnt happen.
orioles will be better this year…and i drove pass yankee stadium 7 times before i finally went.

yankees stadium is the best of 3 major league parks ive been to. statin island yankees has the best minor league stadium out of the 7 ive been to but i havent gone to the coney island one.
Coor's Field is the best ballpark i've been to……about ten times.
Cool…will be there in June to see them play the O's.

wrigley is the best. . .friday afternoon games, ivy in the outfield. . . and beer is sold till the bottom of the 8th inning on day games. plus, they sell old style!

second favourite- pnc. . it's a beautiful stadium. . .and they sell iron city and ic light. . .if camden sold natty-boh, then i'd put camden above pnc. . .gotta support your local brews.

let's see, worst stadium. . .the vet in philly (but that's gone now). . .not that i've been, but i hear, from very reliable sources, that busch stadium is awful, at least they put grass back in a few years ago. i think espn voted olympic stadium as the worst in baseball.

but you have to watch the cubs

it really isn't bad at all, a cookie cutter stadium but much better once it was renovated, and far better than veterans, of course Busch will be gone soon and replaced with a stadium just like all the other "classic" stadiums

classic is the new cookie

27 years of watching the cardinals has been far better than 27 years of watching the cubs would have been

have the cubs even had a decent third basemen in the last 27 years

i wouldn't call ken oberkfell decent. :)

in all fairness, i'm just support the fiancee here. . .i grew up a giants fan, but am now an a's fan, despite my dislike for american league rules. but i've never liked the cardinals. . .where's jeffrey leonard when you need him?

I would take Terry Pendleton and Scott Rolen over any of the cubs third basemen in the last 27 years. That loser Jeffrey Leonard is hopefully flapping his wing out of baseball somewhere.

Ron Cey? Or were his best days with the Dodgers?

he had a couple of good years with the cubs, but his best were with the dodgers. same with players like bill madlock (although i think he won a batting title with the cubs) and bill mueller. they seem to be better players either before or after they play for the cubs.

btw, pollard you know anything about tito landrum having a kid with tommy herr's wife?
