US TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT
Bloc Party have been forced to cancel a number of shows on their current US tour with Panic! At The Disco after drummer Matt Tong was admitted to hospital in Atlanta with a collapsed lung after last night's performance.
Doctors at the hospital in Atlanta say Matt is in a comfortable condition and not in any danger, he will however be staying in hospital for at least the next three days for observation and it's not clear at this stage when Matt will be fit to resume performing.
The band will definitely not be playing at the Charlotte, NC (Cricket Arena), Fairfax, VA (Patriot Center) and both New York Madison Square Garden shows in the coming week.

I vote for a replacement act, since they are not headlining and refunds are not going to happen.

Sounds like a spontaneous pneumothorax. Bummer for him. Nearly killed me about 10 years ago.

This reminds me of that biblical story when Job started a band that earned the admiration of music-loving urban artistic liberal arts types and then they linked up with a dubious hacky kids group in an attempt to gain a mainstream audience and it was displeasing to the lord so he smote the shit out of them mid-tour.

Subject Bloc Party cancels US dates
Body: Bloc Party has cancelled of the remainder of their current US tour with Panic! at the Disco due to Matt Tong's health after being admitted to an Atlanta hospital with a collapsed lung last Thursday night.
While Matt is on the road to recovery, doctors have advised that he not travel or play again for another few weeks in order to give his lung time to properly heal.
From Kele: "We would like to apologize to all of our fans here who won't be able to see us on this tour. We were looking forward to playing in a number of American cities that we've never been to before, however, Matt's health is our number one priority right now."

good question, one i would ask of anyone who actually replied to this thread informing us that they went to the show :)
at one point peeps thoughts that the answer was "no" since BP wasn't headlining, but i see that the dates mentioned in your post are also BP + Panic! shows… not that it would have mattered for me, i sold mine for face (which is all tickmaster would have given me back anyways)

Bloc Party are better on record than live, sorry to say :/ I know 'cause I've seen them numerous times.
Well, they actually were very good the first time I saw them (Bottom of the Hill, SF - 300 capacity)…but the more I saw them and the bigger the venue got, the less interest I had in seeing them…

Isn't that true for just about every band though? Especially if you're seeing them multiple times touring for the same record?

Not really; many bands are just as good if not better live. Tool, The White Stripes, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, anything Mike Patton related, just to name a few. On the other hands, there are just as many that sound terrible live such as White Zombie and RHCP. Actually, RHCP sound like ass either way you cut it.

sucks he got hurt, but maybe now they'll come back headlining clubs and not opening for some shitty hot-at-the-moment pop band
