The Flower Travellin' Band **live** @ Velvet Lounge-March 17th.

3rd ever US appearance by the legendary Japanese heavy psych group Flower Travelling Band! Show starts upstairs at 9pm…18+…$15

In early 1970, a Japanese group called FLOWER TRAVELLIN? BAND went to Canada. The first album ?ANYWHERE? was released by Polydor Records and produced by Yuya Uchida.
FLOWER TRAVELLIN? BAND Performed and became good friends with Canadian rock band ?Light House? in the Osaka Expo?70, and later moved to Toronto in December.
In 1971, the band signed with American Atlantic Records and Canadian GRT records released their second album ?SATORI? in the U.S and Canada. They performed with Light House, Blues Project, EL&P and Doctor John and many others. The band has a hint of ethnic flavor with a melodic Asian rock twist. The single ?SATORI PART2? charted at No.8 on the local Canadian charts.

In 1972, FLOWER TRAVELLIN? BAND released ?MADE IN JAPAN? by Warner Records. They performed a welcome home show in Japan at The Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. In 1973, they were billed to open for the Rolling Stones, but all concerts were cancelled because of visa problems. The fifth album ?MAKE UP? was released by Warner Records. After performing at Kyoto Maruyama Park Outdoor Music Stage, the band took a long break..

Gondola and Kuschty Eye Ergot are playing upstairs too.

DC's best psychedelic sound system :"The Velvet Submarine" will be happening downstairs. DJ Provoke (9:30 club, Cafe Saint-Ex, Marx Cafe, Tabaq Bistro, Breadsoda & Marvin resident dj and Joe's Record Paradise employee), Dj Neville Chamberlain (Som Records owner), Dj Birdman(Cafe Saint-Ex & Marvin resident dj) & special guests.

You suck.

And
this clip
indicates that you are dead wrong.
That's right…this is not an e-mirage.  The legendary FLOWER TRAVELLIN' BAND is playing their 3rd ever US show on Tuesday at the Velvet Lounge.  I won't bother wasting time on a lengthy description, as whoever is familiar with this band knows how amazing this show is going to be.  And if you don't know them, check 'em out: their 2nd album, Satori, is arguably the finest slab of heavy psych-rock ever recorded.  Julian Cope listed it as the #1 Japanese rock record of all-time.  Get enlightened:

joe, this is not going to suck. check out recent youtube footage of FTB from last year in japan.  admittedly, it ain't 1972, but it doesn't have to be.  still sounds fresh to these ears.

also, the openers won't suck, so you at least have a 67% success rate  8)
Gotta admit, I had never listened to these guys before Snailhook's posts, so I did a little research this weekend and loved what I heard.  Not sure I can make it tomorrow, but I wanted to see what kind of sets they play?  Do they do any of the covers from their first two albums?  Or is it just the originals?
Dude, you're such a fucking poseur.

Good reviews of the NYC shows on BV.
Hope we also get the 20+ minute "Hiroshima" encore!
Very much wish that I could see this show but I will be at work. Way to celebrate my psychedelic Irish blood.  ::)
Thoughts on this show possibly selling out? I know it is really nothing the DC hipsters usually go out for, but I can see the fact that this is a rare event bringing the uninitiated, myself included.

Just don't wanna show up at 9 to be shut out…
I'm hoping it draws more than the Velvet regulars who all basically know each other but am not sure it will. Going over after the Pogues so I'm relying/betting on it not selling out.
i hope it doesn't sell out…

byt caught on to the hype and did lightning bolt the event…
Uggg, BYT hype makes me ill. But, at least some coverage of an unappreciated band…

So, at 10:15 they weren't even letting folks upstairs yet, a full 1h15m after things were supposed to start. This is a disturbing trend with Velvet shows (though nothing all that new), and even if there was a good reason for the crazy delay, FTB wasn't going to finish up till well after 1, and for someone who was alone, curious and due in to work early tomorrow morning, it simply wasn't worth waiting through 2 other bands. Which sucks, cause while i wasn't a fan, i would really have liked to see these guys. Luckily i got an extra $20 from the ATM, so I was not out cover…

I am sure the 'real' fans hung around, I'd love to hear how the show went. And why things started so late…
