A Milestone !

I just have to say this: I've been going to the 9:30 club since college (1980 something). I loved the old place and I love the new place.

Tonight I usher in a new era. I'm taking my daughter to her first 9:30 show. And I can't wait to show her around. Some parents get excited about taking their kids back to their college or high school or taking them to work–but this is what I'm excited about.

I've already given her the run down of what to expect and how to behave and hopefully I have raised a new generation of respectful 9:30 club concert goer.

Just had to put that out there.

that almost brought a tear to my eye, hope you both have a great time.  what a great thing to share with your kid.  make sure she's packing earplugs in case the place gets too loud for her.

remember that one of a child's main purposes in life is to remind their parents how uncool they are, therefore be ready for her to be unimpressed with the club.  ideally she'll love the show and think it's great, but parents need to be ready for heartbreak!

I think about the day I'll end up taking my kid (4 years old now) to his first show.

Certainly mixed emotions.  A little nostalgic that my boy is growing up, a little happy that he (hopefully) likes to do some of the stuff his old man does, but mostly sad that I'm sure I will have to suffer through a really shitty band.

bah, nothing that you'll do with your kid will be high quality at first.  you need to work your way up the ladder.  take him skiing, and you'll spend years on the bunny slopes.  take him to the amusement park, and you'll start off with the kiddie rides.  etc.  why should concert-going be any different???

No actually, as I am driving I won't be imbibing in any overpriced beer. I will certainly feed the teens before we get there as they are not fans of Vegan food.

And as for this shite they call music. Speaking for myself, not every concert I've been to has been a home run. It took me a long time to sort through the crap before I was able discern good music from mediocre music. I'm willing to give my kids that sort of leeway because as every parent knows the more you jam stuff down their throats the more they will hate it.

And as to the charge of getting sappy about the 9:30 club on the 9:30 club message board. Nice try. I was mearly mentioning how nice it is to have the 9:30 club around so that I can enjoy it with my kids. It's a rite of passage not an attempt at sappiness.

just once i would love to go a show with mannie.  i bet he's a nice bloke, who only laughs out loud a few times.  ;)

Just to wrap up this thread… as usual the staff at the 9:30 club did a GREAT job taking care of the show, the audience and the parents! The basement bar is a Godsend. And the bartender down there was amazing! The bands were ok. I saw a little bit of each of them and most of the 3oh3 set.

And contrary to the previous replies, both of the kids I took last night loved the 9:30 club. They really liked the whole "run-down" look of the place. They thought it was cool and can't wait to go back.

All-in-all another successful outing!
