Ghost/Magik Markers roll call!!!!!!!!

Who else is in for this?
Will definitely be a show of the year contender!
I haven't had expectations this high for a show since MBV last fall.

Those of you who have AC Ottobar tickets are strongly advised to reconsider (NKOTB, Joe).

how did i not know this show was happening.

i am sad now.

Best guess for set times? Will play a large role in me going.

i bet set times are: 9:30 and 10:30

I've been telling Joe that he's about to make a gigantic mistake all day via text. :)

animal collective was pretty good but not as good as ghost.

So this was about as amazing as I thought it'd be. ;D The chemistry between Batoh and Kurihara is unparalleled. I thought Kurihara was great with Boris but this was a totally different beast. The improv never got repetitive or monotonous; all the jams actually went somewhere. Highlights included Hypnotic Underworld, Motherly Bluster, Coming Home and that epic intro they played to start off the set. Loved the Magik Markers set, too. Elisa's fine-tuned her singing a hell of a lot.


I'm afraid that AC will feel like psychedelic amateur hour tonight after such a mindblowing display.

Wait, did you see AC at Ottobar then left to see Ghost?  That's what I did and I'm so glad I did it, though I only caught the last hour of Ghost's set.

I have not seen the Velvet that packed on any given night(!). I agree with azagh's assessment of the show ;)

yeh but mono was sorta lame save for three or four incredible moments. half the set was filled schmaltzy garbage that was making some of the post-rock kids around me burst into tears.

Oh and Elisa from the Magik Markers is probably the most personable and down-to-earth musician I've had the pleasure of interacting with.

it was sorta how i expected it to be. i saw them a little over two years ago for the first time at rock and roll hotel and it was a non stop assault on my eardrums from beginning to end. they used very few crescendos, and when they did, it wasn't as drawn out and filled with cheese as it was on the 10th anniversary date. overall though, when mono played their heaviest, it was fantastic and managed to raise the hairs all over my body. then again, i didn't mainly go to see mono, but to hear arvo part's new symphony, which ended up being pretty damn good.

anyhow, did they close the velvet lounge set with dominoes (could be wrong with this one), followed with an encore of a killer drawn out version of armiac barbarous dawn and grisaille? by far the highlight of the year right there for me.

They closed the set with the short album version of Aramaic Barbarous Dawn.  The encore was Motherly Bluster and Comin' Home.


Now there's a band that changes setlists every night!
