After repeated listenings, I think this album sucks big time.
What do you think?

I haven't heard it yet…I really liked Murray Street and Rather Ripped a lot. What did you think of those?

really like both too and LOVED Sonic Nurse. They seem to be running out of ideas on this new one and they should stop giving Lee some 'vocal' duties.

How about "it's just another Sonic Youth album"? It definitely falls somewhere between Sister and NYC Ghosts and Flowers….not a dud, but not essential listening. Still, shut up…it's SONIC YOUTH. If they don't have some tenure at this point, I don't know who does…

Ugh…NYC Ghosts and Flowers. Worst tour I had ever seen them on. That was the one where I was ready to give up on them totally. Wasn't that into Experimental Jet Set Trash and No Star either, although I still love "Bull in the Heather".

Yeah, those two are pretty crummy, but they followed up NYC with Murray Street, which I thought was fantastic. Ditto with EJSTNS and Washing Machine.

I think I last liked Sonic Youth around the time Goo came out. Ultimately, I realized none of them could sing in any kind of compelling fashion, and the music was just too noisy for my tastebuds. I'm sure their new album is just more of the same. It's not like they're going to put out a bossa nova or country album or anything different.

I've got it coming in the mail next week. I was a little excited about the 'live vinyl w/ pre-order' until I found out that it would cost an additional $14 (compared to amazon) for a 'bonus' item. I thought it would be free with pre-order. I guess I should know better. I think Nurse might be my favorite SY album. Sister is actually my least favorite (go ahead and hate me!).

It's above-average, but not a classic by any means. WAY better than Rather Ripped.
