Rock n Roll Hotel question
June 04, 2009 at 03:15 AM UTC
#
I'm going to see A Place to Bury Strangers on Friday at Rock N Roll Hotel, and have a fairly basic question regarding the venue (I've never been there).
Do shows there normally sell out? Or specifically, any idea if this one will? I know I can buy tickets in advance but there may be people coming with me that won't know till last minute.
thanks!

The amount of people at the 930 show may have totaled 1/3 the number needed in order to sell out the RNRH.

That might be overshooting it.

I see. Well then, I guess I'll risk driving 2 hours to the venue to buy tickets at the door. Shouldn't be a problem I guess.
Thanks for the help!
btw, happy 5k posts!

Hah thanks!
Keep in mind that the 930 show was on a wednesday and had a 10 PM doortime.
Good luck!

They say their capacity is 400, but I think the room is too small for that many people. They did move the merch upstairs at the last show I went to, so that may help accommodate a few more people. Since the show is on a Friday, I think it's a lot more likely to be at or near capacity…

do take in to consideration that APTBS has probably gained a little more attention/following since they were last here, so that might fill up the place a bit more.
get there early if you're not going to buy in advance. maybe swing by the club, buy tix, then go out for food/drink?
APTBS + RnR hotel = you can't bring earplugs that are strong enough. the band plays LOUD and the venue is happy to crank it up. ears will bleed. also, the room is long and narrow, and the stage is low = crappy sightlines if you're not towards the front. not a problem if the show isn't sold out, definite issue if it is.

Whey they played the RnR Hotel a year or two ago, as the 3rd band on the bill, the place was packed for them. Once they went off, a lot of people left, if I remember correctly.

it is also possible that people are over their music.

I caught their set at coachella which was pretty loud. but i'm expecting this one to be even more intense. bring the noise!

I thought the RNRH gig at which they opened for Sons and Daughters and Holy Fuck was loud but not overwhelming. It wasn't Dino Jr. or MBV loud or anything.

Well, no, but that's a rather high bar. It was still pretty darn loud. Looking forward to it though. Should be a good one.

The show was terrific. Didn't come close to selling out though. The crowd barely filled the area in front of the bar. It was pretty much deserted from the merch table back.

I doubt it sold out, my friends and I got there around 9 and were able to buy tix at the door, and there was plenty of open space throughout the night.
Show itself was incredible - beautiful noise. Thank god for earplugs. Met alot of cool people at the show and talked to Oliver before/after the show. Really cool guy, didn't know he was a Fredricksburg native!
The openers, Caverns and True Womanhood, were both very good as well.
I also really liked the venue. Very cool atmosphere going on. My first time there and it definitely won't be my last.
thanks for the help earlier about the venue. overall, a very very fun night for me and my friends, well worth the 2 hour drive to and back.
