when will franz ferdinand come east to dc?
British Sea Power
Wow, smack. That's some good stuff (and Rhett wonders how we can have a list of 20 - 30 "to see" shows, not that I make them all, but they're on the 'interested' list).
Sat 04/10/04 The Juliana Theory Slim's
As a heads up, expect the Britney crowd. I have a friend who's a fan and gave me one or two albums (I had no idea what their deal was), so I went to see them with her at 9:30. Wow, we may have been two of the ten folks at the show (of only about 100-150, by the way) who could buy a drink legally. They were okay, but kind of cheezy. As it's a Sat night, not sure you want to use it for them. But, it could be fun, what the hell.
Sat 03/20/04 Fishbone The Independent
Sat 03/20/04 Franz Ferdinand w/ The Tyde The Independent
So does this means all three are playing? If that's the case, mother of god – how much fun!!?!!
Wed 04/07/04 Raveonettes Bottom Of The Hill
I found their show really boring. Maybe they've gotten better; I saw them when just the EP was out. Won't catch them when they come through DC…

Alas, Lily, that show is in San Francisco.
But shouldn't they come through here eventually??!!?

My bad. The Franz show w/ the Tyde is at Slims. Fishbone is at the Independent.
My only other option is to see them open for the Strokes a week later so I thought I would check the warm-up show with just them. We'll see.

Well then my math only shows four shows I would go to out there. Actually, just one Old 97's show would be satisfactory.

Nevermind, I'm having a rough go of the board today. My monitor is on the fritz and I can't see athe color red in my RGB scheme. It's brutal.

i'm confused
Just Monday at the Elefant show I was heckling the opening band, The Pleased, for being gawd awful and looking like a bad Tim Curry in Rocky Horror and the SF crowd was looking at me like I'm a freak. The lead singer was just a complete tool. He kept playing with the mic like he was Tim Curry from Rocky Horror (or maybe he was trying to be Diego from Elefant) and at one point the top half of the mic stand slid down into the bottom half because he slammed the stand down so hard. He couldn't get it out so he had to finish the song out on his knee so he could play guitar and sing the song.
So the club tech guy/roadie waits in between songs to go up there and fix it and the lead singer yells at him (mind you this is the Pleased's equipment, not the clubs) and I started telling the lead singer to stop acting like and ass and these things won't happen. The crowd just stood their in awe like "nodoby talks to the band". They were terrible and didn't even play their best song - "Another Disaster".
Anyhow, when I was chatting up Elefant between songs Diego was stoked and offered me one of those coveted Jadetree hugs, but I passed and the gay guy next to me got it instead. I don't care if you are a local band, your respect is earned.
Guess which one I'm talking about in this pic:

So what makes heckling a band so cool? Seems pretty juvenile to me.
I mean, the crowd was probably looking at you thinking what an ass you were, not looking at you in awe or anything like that.

I was defending the stage hand and letting the Pleased know that despite everybody's back being to you and chatting throughout your gawd awful performance, some of us are here to see you too (even own the album) and that you should give a little better effort. I'm sorry that Elefant isn't quite Berlin and The Psych Furs (who they are also opening for), but with an effort like this you should be lucky they haven't dropped you.
