why doesn't this guy get more love?
his arrangements and melodies are really top-notch (on par with the Shins or Sufjan or other great indie/chamber-pop outifts) and he's released a long string of really strong albums … it just doesn't seem like he's mentioned in those kind of ranks
is he too earnest for the hipper-than-thou indie crowd? do i just have my head in the sand?

I think it is the PA at the end of the name. Is he an attorney, from Pennsylvania? What? I saw him a while back and he was damn good, bit Dylan-y though.

If he gets mentioned too much, then he would not be indie.

I agree. More Matt Pond appreciation is definitely needed.

I liked Several Arrows Later…
Haven't really listened to his earlier stuff too much. Any suggestions?

Has he been on the OC? Maybe that would help.

His arrangements are great, but I think his lyrics are a bit too cheasy sometimes, "I remember you, do you remember me, there's nowhere to the heart better than awkwardly…"
But I will admit, I liked both Emblems and Several Arrows Later quite a bit.

The Post once described Matt Pond PA as "post-indie chamber pop" - a fact which may explain why they have never gotten a lot of attention. I mean, honestly, when was the last time someone told you they were really into post-indie chamber pop?

When Rhett was gushing over Devotcka?
*Disclaimer: I like Devotcka myself.
Speaking of 'post-indie chamber pop' (minus some of the pop), did anyone see My Education the other night at Iota? I would have liked to have seen that show.

For me, it starts with the band name sucking and carrying on into the "I already have albums by the Shins and Pernice Brothers and Nada Surf and this band is not close to that level so why would I need their cd's?" train of thought.

You're probably right. And the Pernice Bros. release on their own label as opposed to being on a major like Matt Pond PA, so they probably don't get as much cash, either.

Actually, I feel like the Pernice Brothers don't get enough love.

Last time Pernice Brothers came to DC, they played at Jammin' Java. Jammin' Java! Don't get me wrong, Jammin' Java is a nice little place and all, especially if you're an up-and-coming artist. I just think that the Bros. are way too established for such a small venue.

Whereas Matt Pond headlined at 9:30. Now remind me, who's not getting enough love?
