so what did we decide on the Futureheads?

thinking of catching the show tonight…

cant remember what others said of thier live show. is it worth seeing? or does it lack substance…
Isn't that tomorrow? I saw them last time around and they were ok. I got tired of them after a while. They would be fine as an opening band. I'm hoping I can get into the Stephen Malkmus show instead.
they're playing a special show just for me, tonight. that is , if i feel like going :)

only ok? ugh.
I forgot they're playing Baltimore tonight.

I mean, they're really good, but after a while I just got tired of it. Fun and energetic show. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood…
Is Pitty Sing playing with the Futureheads in Baltimore?

I've never heard them, but supposedly they are the next Killers.

Do we really need another? I thought The Bravery was vying for that title
Friends of mine on the west coast have been recommending them, though my tolerance for music along the lines of FF, Bravery, and all that post-garage-punk-neo-modern-whateverthefuckyouwantto call it is somewhat limited. Not sure if the Futureheads fit into that genre. There's always the Back Bar to retreat to.

It's only a $15 show so what the hell. I'll pick up a couple of tix on my way to the Black Cat tonite.
Anyone know if the 930 show sold out last time?
The show didn't sell out last time (it was crowded though), but they have generated more buzz this time around and its on a Saturday so I wouldn't be surprised if it sold out the night of.

Their previous show at the club was very good – lots of energy.

And, I wouldn't call them the next Killers. The Futureheads seem like a real rock band. Not some made for magazine cover shit like the Killers.

No, it's Pitty Sing that have been labeled as the next Killers.

I like the Futureheads. They remind me of the Jam.

some of their songs sound exactly like the Jam but for some reason not as good, I cant listen to the whole album anymore without becoming bored
i have heard one Pitty Sing song. (sing song?)

they sound very 80s, yes. Killers, no, but maybe i will try and show up early and see them.

Exactly how I feel. Loved it the first few times I listened to it
The last show was fun. Not fun enough to make me want to go again though.
Pop tunes that will make jaded indie kids dance

Itâ??s not that Pitty Sing front man Paul Holmes doesnâ??t get the allusions to â??80s revivalist rockers like The Killers â?? or even the originals like The Smiths â?? itâ??s just that he doesnâ??t really appreciate the comparison. In fact, says the Manchester-born (that would be England) guitarist and lyricist, heâ??d rather listen to a rap album than rock out to whatâ??s being hailed as â??indieâ? these days.

â??The progression in rap music is really unparalleled,â? says Holmes. â??Itâ??s the one thing keeping up with reality. Rock music keeps going back on itself.â? Whatâ??s most likely on his iPod? Underground club favorite (but soon-to-be-everywhere) M.I.A.

With the inevitable comparisons out of the way, Holmes and company present themselves as an incredibly ambitious band. Their eponymous first full length album starts off equally ambitious, with an orchestral prelude that blends right into a rock anthem, â??Hanging on Me.â? The soaring guitar and drums certainly wouldnâ??t feel out of place in an arena in front of tens of thousands of adoring fans, a place Holmes make no apologies for striving towards.

The album continues with a sound thatâ??s equally lush, edgy and crooning, with plenty of drawn out â??oohâ??sâ? from Holmes, and a combination of â??80s synth and mid-â??90s electronica. Pitty Singâ??s heart is pure pop, though, minus all of the saccharine that normally rots the soul of the music.

â??Telephoneâ? is a gorgeously lush pop track with so many â??oh-ohâ??sâ? you half expect to see a 17 year-old John Cusack blaring it from a boombox in your neighborâ??s front yard. â??Radio,â? the clear single from the album were it not for the delightfully naughty lyrics, should manage to get all of the â??thin wrested boys,â? as Holmes describes the typical indie crowd, to stop staring at their feet and even dance a bit.

Following an ethereal spoken word interlude that feels oddly out of place, â??Robotsâ? closes the album nicely with an edgy guitar and vocals that depart from the rest of the album.

Of course, pure pop and the indie music scene donâ??t exactly make for the best of friends. For every warm embrace of pop (see: The New Pornographers), thereâ??s certainly a healthy dose of mistrust â?? probably because of the unspoken rule that once something gains mass appeal, it loses any cool cachet. Holmes certainly recognizes this distinction, noting out the difficulty of â??not really being an indie band on an indie label.â? Just as difficult is finding an audience amongst the hyper-consolidated radio market without a huge label able to afford massive payola backing.

Not that this is going to stop Pitty Sing from putting out more pure pop. Holmes promises that the next album, which is written and now awaiting studio time, is going to be â??as much of a pop album as â??Thriller.â??â?

Whether this somewhat arbitrary distinction between pop and indie works for or against Pitty Sing remains to be seen. Theyâ??re set to begin touring on the East Coast with perpetual crowd pleasers The Futureheads, which should certainly raise their awareness, and no doubt continue to fuel their ambition.

I should want to go to this show, but I just don't. I had a ticket for their last show, but it was a Monday and I'd just done a lot of traveling and I bagged it. But, not moved to see them now…don't know why. Have the album, haven't listened to it.

are you crazzzzy. I was there ALL night. That was the most kickin' show I've ever seen; it was Devo meets cashmere sweaters. All the upstairs fans were exhausted. Maybe you used your press pass and stayed in the VIP section too long. No slow stuff; no emo; no anthems/hooks…was your hangover blocking your ears and your brain synapses? You worry me sometimes; you being a music critic and all… I LOVED the Futureheads and so did everyone else, you freak. It was THE MOST energetic show at the 930 in the past three years (except for the Jam…).
awww, does hoya miss sushilady's attention?
