Rococo is about you
I love "Modern Man"

can't seem to find the old arcade fire thread that went epic after the Washington Post reviewer gave the 2005 show a lukewarm review….
Was that the same thread were someone compared seeing Arcade Fire to seeing Talking Heads?  God, we're overly dramatic, aren't we?

I found at least two Arcade Fire threads of interest from that time….

The first worth reading for the shear comedy of someone who saw the band at the Black Cat before they were blogged to death

Here is what appears to be an off shoot of the main Arcade Fire thread at the time, smackie alludes to another more ridiculous one which may have been deleted.  Skimming it I see a references to the Talking Heads, but none of the outrage over the review which was included.  In typical forum fashion the discussion went an entirely different direction at one point….

Here is the page where the WaPo review got posted inside this thread in case anyone  was wondering

lemme remind you that there are people who think that the Talking Heads are overrated as hell.

Ah, here it was:

I couldn't see Talking Heads at the time they filmed Stop Making Sense, this is one of the things I regret the most, however, for some reason I have the impression that seeing the Arcade Fire live will somehow compensate for that.

Barcelona…still feel that way :)

well that was a fun read.  Seeing lots of people from back then ar still on the boards.  People with their name changes.  Is sonnick still here under another name?  ;D
I stopped reading after some douchebag compared the Arcade Fire to the Flaming Lips. The Lips haven't had a decent live show in years. If you've seen one, you've seen them all.
Their shows might not be like they were in 04 and 05, but I remember the 05 show in Chicago and its still one of my most memorable shows. Like said in the other thread, lots of "holy shit" and "you got to be fucking kidding me"'s all night. The final three songs of Hood #3–>Rebellion and In the Backseat is as good as it gets. Nice how someone mentioned how quiet it was between songs. It was so quiet at the end of In the Backseat when Renee and Win were singing the end of the song, it sent chills down my spine. I only hope their show on Friday will be as good as their shows in the past.
Totally digging the new album after reacquainting myself with "Funeral" and "Neon Bible" all last week. "Half Light II" is my fave off "Suburbs". Gonna be in the GA pit this Friday; it'll be my first AF concert. Down close .. yes!!

Actually, the recent addition of more members + cut-down on backing tracks that the Embryonic tracks have brought has significantly changed their live presence.

In fact, in the past year they've played some shows without big screens, balloons, and walking bubbles.

Not the same live show:

Plus, it's hard to fault the Lips' live presence even when it's been samey, 'cos they pay an enormous amount of attention to their fans. Picking 16-or-so enthusiastic punters from the pit and giving them what's essentially free VIP treatment is something that most bands wouldn't even consider. Wayne is honestly one of the nicest, most patient people I've ever met.

Unlike AF, FLips aren't being constantly deified. We can agree that AF will most likely be seen as slightly legendary, just based on the hype-cloud they've maintained over the past half-decade. But there's no denying the Flaming Lips, who've been working at their craft for nearly three decades and show no signs of slowing down.
^^ a much better Spoon setlist at MSG than Philly (I didn't go to the MSG show). Have to say that Spoon is not meant for the amphitheaters. It was a pretty forgettable set.

Yes, but Win was wrong because Game 6 was at the Summit in Houston, not the Garden. Although I applaud anytime someone twists the knife in the backs of Knick fans.
That is a pretty strong review, can't wait!

I still have an extra pit ticket! I will give any interested boardees a boardee discount!
How is it when they have a standing pit at Merriweather? I just realized the earliest I can get there is 630 maybe 7 so the pit should already be getting full by then. I take it even a "bad" spot in the pit is still really good?

I've been in the pit at Merriweather a couple of times.  Any spot in the pit is good, but from my experience they overcrowd the pit, making it a bit uncomfortable.  As long as you are not very short, you should have a pretty decent view from wherever you are.
