Man fatally beaten outside D.C. nightclub
A man was beaten to death by a group of others early Friday after he allegedly hurled a brick through the window of a nightclub in the bustling U Street neighborhood, D.C. police said.
The man, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, reportedly threw the brick through the window of DC9 Nightclub, located at 1940 9th Street NW, just south of U Street, police said.
Officer Istmania Bonilla, a police spokeswoman, said between three and five people came out of the club after the window was shattered, pursued the man down the block and "severely beat him."
Police were notified just after 2:30 a.m., Bonilla said. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are questioning people who witnessed the assault, Bonilla said, and do not yet know what may have motivated the man to throw the brick through the window. Police sealed off the 2000 block of 9th Street for several hours so that detectives could search the crime scene in daylight.
