Crime is skyrocketing in the District

But it's down in Ward 6. Take that, bitches. Let's see here, dumbfucks leaving valuable shit around, criminals pounce. Go ahead, leave that iPad out at the coffeeshop while you go take a leak.

Property crime shows alarming rise in the District

Burglaries in the Dupont Circle area have more than tripled this year. Thefts have spiked about 65 percent in neighborhoods east of the Anacostia River. In Columbia Heights, police are approaching people and warning them to put away their smartphones because thieves are snatching them.

Property crime is surging across the District in 2011. The most stubborn categories are burglaries, up 18 percent from this time last year (from 712 to 841), and thefts, which have increased 23 percent (from 1,469 to 1,803) through March 24, the latest date for which data are available.

?These two crimes have been the biggest problem we have for the past six months,? D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said in an e-mail.

Violent crime in the District is down modestly in 2011. Gun crimes are on the decline, though homicides, at 20, are up from 18 at this time last year. Robberies have also increased slightly. Lanier cautioned against drawing conclusions from the homicide figures because it?s still early in the year and the total is close to last year?s number.
Blaming the victim is fun!
And if women stopped wearing those short skirts and tight tops they wouldn't get raped as often eh?

Yeah, nice leap there.  ::)
i could have a reply here . . . perhaps even post a cat to see if frank gives a toss.  but then sweetcell would just yell at me for still spreading the babble of city safety.  thank you raccoon, thank you deer, coyote and bear.  you wild things seem so much more the friendly and skipping through the meadow sweet each passing day to this country boy who likes widespread panic.

Nothing wrong with taking a leak, but the people who leave their shit on a coffee or fast food restaurant table at peak hours to "reserve" it, while they wait in line for 30 minutes to order, deserve to have their stuff stolen,
I can believe this. I was at the Omar Rodriguez show the other night and parked on that street behind the club. After the show when coming back to my car I noticed other show patrons in the street examining their cars. Windows busted and valuables taken. I saw at lest two but there were probably more. My car was fine, thankfully.

It never happened to me…but it happens because I've seen smashed out windows on many an occasion near the club.

As for reserving tables with your shit…what pisses me off is when students come and pile a stack of text books up that blocks out the fucking daylight then ask for a cup of ice-water before spending the next 8 fucking hours studying having not spent a fucking penny in the store, while I have to sit on the fucking window sill with my $5 cup of coffee. Fucking free-loading wankers…I'm probably contributing towards their tuition too by means of some bullshit grant.  >:( (okay, I need a lie-down now, I have a headache)
And they're probably getting in-state tuition rates in spite of their illegal alien status.

I once left a $6 fake leather thrift store jacket in my car overnight in Mt. Pleasant and came back to find my window smashed and the jacket gone. $100 deductible on the window, if i remember correctly.

I was once mugged walking home from the metro in Takoma Park.

And I was assaulted at a show at the 9:30 Club.

All of that in the space of 1997-2001.

Thankfully, no acts of violence since I moved to VA in 2004.

Curiously you left the sexual assault, after leaving the Lincoln Theater in 1998, off the list?………

all things are relative… used to be that if you owned a car and lived in the District getting your window smashed in was just part of the cost of living.    That pretty much went out with the final end of the Barry era, though.
DC might benefit from more crime.

Not sure if you guys saw the Examiner today but they're talking about PG County has a uprise in their homicides. DC is little bit less in the homicides but its going up some more.

Not a surprise in the least.
