Someone stated this before but the forum software has to have a no-post for the first 24 hrs/no thread starting for 7 days for new users feature.

That way handles that look like they might be bots can be deleted before ever having a chance to spam.

I have no idea if SMF has a moderated post option, but if not the code is open source and a mod might not be too difficult to implement.  In the case that a mod like this would be something the powers that be interested in, let me know and I'll see if I can write the code.  I've been on the code team for several server apps including one of the major forum packages.  I might be able to pull it off.  I'd envision making it so that all posts by new members must be approved by an admin/moderator before being public.  That's how it works in the code I have worked on before.
OK so I just read up on SMF a bit.  Seems there is a feature called membergroups that would be helpful in this matter.  I am not going to go into a full discussion of how it could (should?) be set up.  No need give info to the black hats if they cannot figure it out for themselves.  If any help is needed in setting this up (should it be desired) just let me know.

I loved Spam when I was a carnivore….fried spam buttie (sandwich) for breakfast dipped in a nice easy over fried egg was THEFUCKINGBEST!!!
I'm more disappointed that some of the regulars can't detect what new threads are spam and simply ignore them than I am that this free service for us that, for the most part, allows for us to be socially retarded isn't up to their high standards.
that's a really awkward sentence, but agreed.

still, if we can implement a quick fix to cut out this crap… why not?

I believe it was more the approach than the idea that I took issue with.

did you have a brain tumor for breakfast or what?  did you read my post?

here, let me refresh your aging mind:  "seperate threads that you can tell are fake are one thing . . . but when they start appearing in random threads"

i guess if i would have included some iphone bullshit, it would have been ok?
